Mourdock up 10 over Lugar, 48/38, four days before Indiana primary
Hot Air ^ | may 4, 2012 | ED MORRISSEY

Indystar calls this latest poll result a “dramatic slide,” and is it ever. Incumbent Senator Dick Lugar led the race in the last iteration of the Howey/DePauw poll by seven points. Today, he’s trailing by ten, and Lugar has only four days to turn it around:

The Howey/DePauw Indiana Battleground Poll, conducted by two prominent Republican and Democratic pollsters, shows Mourdock with a 48 percent to 38 percent lead over Lugar. …

The poll shows a dramatic slide for Lugar, who in his last election in 2006 won with more than 80 percent of the vote after Democrats considered him so unbeatable that they didn’t field a candidate against him.

Only about a month ago, a Howey/DePauw Battleground poll showed Lugar leading Mourdock 42 percent to 35 percent.

When voters who were not solid in their support for a candidate yet and were merely leaning in one direction or the other are removed, Mourdock is still leading 43 percent to 35 percent over Lugar.

If Lugar loses by this kind of margin on Tuesday, he won’t be the only one embarrassed by the loss. Outgoing Governor Mitch Daniels has campaigned for Lugar, especially over the last few weeks, cutting TV ads for Lugar’s campaign. A loss would also be a rebuke to Daniels, and could hurt his standing in the GOP down the road with the grassroots and the establishment. Gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence was smarter, refusing two months ago to endorse anyone in the Senate primary:

“I’ve known both men and respected both men for more than 20 years, and I think that when you have two good choices in a primary, you ought to let voters decide,” he said. “I consider Richard Lugar a mentor and a friend, and Richard Mourdock is someone I have admired as well.”

RINO’s are spineless and gutless, IMO. Our nation needs men and women with spine and guts to undo the RAT tyranny.

This is the only way to combat Obama, the Dims and the RINOs. Inject Congress with a majority of true Conservatives.

We are in interesting times. It is not about getting R’s over democrats. It is about getting conservatives over liberal R’s. And it seems to be working.

Another point, Lugar went negative the last few weeks hard, really hard, against Mourdock. I think a lot of Hoosiers got turned off by those attack ads he is runner now and see Lugar for what he really is, a spoiled old elitist who refuses to give up the perks he feels he so rightly deserves now.

Here is where we win, in the legislature.

We get Obama the hell out and get real conservatives in power in the legislature to block a week liberal president, and the shenanigans will stop.

I live to see the day that the likes of Mclame and Bonehead and their ilk are no longer of importance.

Lugar started his “dramatic slide” years ago. I am so ready to vote out that RINO next Tuesday.

Woo hoo! Proof that the Tea Party movement of conservatism is alive and well. Let’s win everywhere we can and incrementally gain on the moderates. We may lose a battle for the POTUS nominee but let’s keep winning for the long term in the House, Senate and at the local level.

Peggy Noonan was trying to resurrect Dick Lugar’s faltering campaign in an article “The Case for Dick Lugar” in the May 2, 2012, WSJ. That Lugar is loosing big is great. This old dinosaur should have been put down years ago.

Congressional leadership needs to be targeted whenever possible.

Personally, I’d do away with this “freshman” crap and treat them like adults. Eliminate prize committee appointments to senior members etc.

Told my Republican Women’s group in Texas last night to put in an extra request to God for Murdock’s success and to donate $$. They tend to pay almost no attention to politics in other states and I’m doing my best to educate them. Kudos to you all for all your hard work. We have some RINO’s of our own to get rid of and it’s a long, slow process.

Daily Kos libs are licking their chops at the idea of Lugar being defeated.

It makes the slug Donnelly a contender, and they think they can flip the seat in November.

The TV ads are so over the top around here.

I’m hoping we can unseat Lugar. And Pence will make a great gov.

Only angst I have.... Will Murdoch get elected in the general? I assume so, but.... We’ll see.

I get to go vote in our primary next week to. Who should I vote for as a presidential GOP candidate now that my vote means nothing?

Really happy for you, and all your fellow Hoosier conservatives. For a 6 term senator, to go from running unopposed last time out, to losing his primary this time..shows that we are starting to make a difference, and will continue to do so.

I have a few questgions..hope you won't mind.. Do you see any chance that Lugar will run as an independent? Has he publicly pledged to support the GOP nominee?

You have several really interesting House races this year.Specifically:

1. 2ndCD..Can Walorski win the primary, and has redistricting made it more GOP friendly?

2. 4thCD..Will Rokita win the primary? What about Landske?

3. 5thCD. Who do you like in the GOP primary? Any recent polls?

4. 6thCD. Same questions as in the 5thCD.

5. 7thCD/ ANY chance we can send the Carson family home for good? Do we have a candidate?

6. 8thCD..Can Kristi Risk do it? ( Note: I've already sent her a check) and can the GOP candidate win the general?

Many thanks..
