The Secret Service agent who ran down and killed a Brooklyn mother of five as she was crossing a busy intersection swerved to avoid hitting her, police said Friday.
But 47-year-old Maria Tripp ran into the path of his car.
She tries to go back towards the center lane, a police source said. He swerves but she ran into the direction of where he swerves to, the center lane, and is struck.
The deadly accident at an intersection in the Ocean Hill neighborhood was captured on videotape. The driver, identified by sources as Joseph Felton, was not charged with a crime.
Felton remained at the scene after the crash Thursday and tested negative for alcohol. He also has a clean driving record, sources said.
Meanwhile, Tripps family gathered at the dead womans Bedford-Stuyvesant home to grieve.
Tripp was struck while crossing Atlantic Ave. at Ralph Ave. with her 12-year-old daughter, a 19-year-old nephew and another relative, police said.
The family was in the crosswalk, but they ignored a red light, police said.

This is a horrible tragedy, any way you look at it. Prayers for this family, as well as for the one who hit them.
I thought Bedford-Stuyvesant was a bad area. Am I mistaken?
In any event, she was crossing against the light and ran into the path of the car - twice.
guess she had it coming.
you're thinking it was a booty call for the SS guy?

A Westchester County police officer was treated for a minor injury after a Secret Service agent with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s motorcade tried to cruise past a security checkpoint at the county airport. The incident - which police and Secret Service chalked up to miscommunication - happened at 10:30 a.m. Sunday as Clinton was headed to an airport hangar to catch a flight for a Democratic rally in Syracuse.
The article continued:
County police Detective William Rehm said the Secret Service called the police that morning to arrange for an escort through a newly installed terminal checkpoint. The police told the Secret Service, which oversees security for the former first lady, to meet an officer in a marked patrol car at the airport entrance on Route 120, and to follow that officer through the checkpoint.
But when the two-car convoy arrived, the Secret Service drivers blew past the officer and headed down the airport’s access road. Seconds later, when the motorcade came upon the checkpoint, the Secret Service drivers continued through, ignoring signs and several officers gesturing for the vehicles to stop.
According to a Washington Times report the same day:
Officer Dymond, 47, said Mrs. Clinton’s van approached the checkpoint at about 35 mph. The driver, he said, was talking on a cell phone as he yelled for him to stop, but only after the police officer threw his shoulder into the van while banging on its side did the vehicle come to a halt about 100 yards beyond the checkpoint. He described the agent driving as quite agitated when asked to show his identification. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of bruises.

Felton remained at the scene after the crash Thursday and tested negative for alcohol. He also has a clean driving record
***********************************************
We’ve got plenty of cops here in Florida with squeaky clean driving records that have killed many people ,, if you’re never investigated or charged your record stays pretty darned clean.
It will never happen in this administration.
Of course he was sober. Of course his record is spotless. Of course the dead lady had a death wish.
After all, Bed-Stuy is a "bad area."
Maria Tripp could very well be related to Linda Tripp.
Perhaps a hit on Tripp.
In Bed-Stuy (aka Pigsty)? Don’t bet on it.
In any event, the accident didn't happen in Bed-Stuy but in Ocean Hill, which does suck. But, Atlantic Ave, which runs through Brooklyn is a short cut that locals know about and use to avoid having to swing down to the Belt Parkway. My bet is that the agent knew this.
As for Brooklyn in general...do not try to figure it out if it's not part of your orbit you will never get it. The best advice I can give is --- "Forget it Jake - it's Chinatown"
Hmm ~ another cop who has no idea that cars come with brakes!
I don’t know why that is colored red! LOL.
I almost did once many years ago. He grabbed my arm and ask who I was. I was in uniform—He wasn’t.
dude, that's beautiful.
Note to self: Wait for green light.
Secret Service has been having a real string of bad luck, lately.
