....Nervousness about what the future holds has reached deep into Mr Sarkozys inner circle, too. One of his small group of close friends who gather around the president for late-night drinks most weeks put it in the starkest terms for me: Economically, I want him to win because Hollande will be a disaster for France. But for the sake of social stability, it is better if Sarkozy loses. He recognised that the president has been a divisive figure, and that after a decade in power for the Right the public is angry and has had enough. To hear one of Frances wealthy elites whisper that letting the Left win would avoid trouble and reduce tensions is to hear the aristocrats talk of placating the mob.

Europe is headed for big trouble. Again.
A La Guillotine!
How many Frenchmen does it take to defend France?
The best analysis of the French election that I’ve read.
Thank you.
I am trying to understand why this is a victory for La Penn.
Diluting the vote for Sarkozy? Or validating the mood of the country?
That may translate into a better showing for her party in national assembly elections down the road. Lefty pundits in France and the US have their panties in twist because she represents French “islamophobia.” France has the largest Muslim population in Europe - some 10% - largely unassimilated and increasingly violent. That Le Pen's anti-immigration message is finding a receptive audience is hardly surprising.
Why are the streets of Paris all lined with trees?
Funny, that's just about what some little whackjob Texas runt got here in '92.And with just about the same result.
So the Germans can march in the shade.
Le Pen
Now I understand. Thanks.
America is still the best place in the world to live!
And that will be where trouble begins.
The old Bill Clinton bait and switch middle class tax cut ploy. In the end, every election everywhere in the developed world is a choice between debt depression caused by austerity, or a hyperinflationary collapse. Any voter who thinks there is an easy way out is not paying attention.
= "Let them eat cake."
That savant runt gave us BC.
That savant runt gave us BC.
Gag populism from Hollande. Austerity measures are what cause growth and job creation, not moving away from them.
I predict that within weeks Hollande will move back toward austerity, doing the same dance that Obama has done over the Bush tax-cuts...always promising to trash them but never doing so.
It doesn't matter if people are paying attention.
As Dear old Dad always said, "Once the parasites outnumber the hosts, it's all over. The Democrats win."
Everything Ubama and the Democrats do is with the goal of getting re-elected and gaining power. They are politicians - - that's what they do. To improve their re-election chances and gain power they must work to increase the size of the Democrat party's "base". (Duh.) The Democrat party's base is comprised of society's losers and parasites. Therefore (obviously), the Democrats are continually striving to INCREASE the number of parasites. The surest way for Ubama and the rats to increase the number of parasites is by sabotaging the economy and getting as many people as possible dependent on big government (ie., dependent on them, the Democrats).
None of this is rocket surgery. It's as plain as the nose on your face.
Only a complete moron could fail to see what Ubama and the Democrats have been quite deliberately doing for a very long time now.
Not mentioned here is that the usual, classless Democrat / socialist excuse will be a constant refrain from the socialists and their Euro-scum / Democrat newsrooms: "Sarkozy's fault".
Wrong by 180°. "Give them the cake."
Thanks mojito.
I believe this is the very same rationale for the Obama presidency. I think that we have heard so much about “the man keeping blacks down” that the power-brokers (both parties) in Washington decided to give us a black president to try and eliminate that argument. I also believe that we’re stuck with him for another term for the same reason.
Romney, like McCain, will pretend to want to win, but the deal is to allow Obama another term to complete the original mission and keep people placated.
Some days I think the 2012 election will see BHO lose as no other has, then there are days that I think otherwise.
