Beat me to the punch...I thought Jerry Seinfeld would be
happy to see the headline.

Nevertheless it is still sad when someone dies for doing
something so petty. I’m not sure capital punishment is
appropriate for stealing but nowadays the perp will kill
you just so they can steal something. And who knows what
happened before these events...maybe it was extortion, or
loan sharking, or sometin’ else. The whole affair needs
a thorough investigation.

I’m sure you meant the title to be “NW” Man, not “New Man”... At first I thought the article was about a trannie getting shot!

It was in the original title, probably to indicate an update. We are not allowed to change titles on FR. It is a sensible rule.

Remove the plug from a Remington 1100...

5 round, semi-auto shotgun, with 24” home defense barrel, is a wonderful thing.

“Remove the plug from a Remington 1100...” - then add a Choate magazine extension and have a 10 round autoloading shottie.

PS add a pistol grip stock for easier and faster control.

“A shotgun lets you bleed to death slow.”

Not at all correct. The advantage of a shotgun is the production of multiple wound channels. For that reason, #1 buckshot is recommended over 00 or (my old favorite) 000 buckshot).

There was a reason White Hunter going into thornbuch areas after wounded leopards preferred a double barreled shottie, with two triggers. Both barrels were fired when Mr. Cat jumped out of concealment. The White Hunter chose 00 buckshot because of a greater need for penetration than is needed for gun fights with unarmored humans.

Shotties cause quicker incapacitation from blood loss and tissue damage than rifles and handguns.

It depends on the distance. If you get a straight shot up close and personal the head comes off. If you get him running away you might put a bunch of small holes in him and it will be a slow thing.

Indeed it is...

“That could easily require a number of shots to stop a determined dirtbag.”

With buck shot it is a common arm for deer hunting in Illinois and Ohio. Many people are quite successful with it.

I never knew that a .410 could be a good deer gun. I learned something new today. Thank you.

I'm not a deer hunter, but the ones I know here in Alabama seem to favor 12 ga. 3" Max Loads. The only buckshot I have are tactical loads for my 590.

A .410 has the same hitting power per pellet as a 12 gauge, just less shot, otherwise they would be useless.

a .410 is a very useful shotgun, frequently carried by older guys to cut down on weight and recoil. They do very well with it to the point that there are .410 skeet leagues.

It is a good gun. Seriously good.

One of the advantages of the .410 is that you can buy your first single shot deer gun (in .410) at Walmart for about $85.00. Not a bad investment for venison. Gets the kids shooting and those who can’t afford a Remington 700.

My first shotgun at age 12 back in the day was a Sears J.C. Higgins 410 bolt action with a clip. Later I gave it to my little brother and bought a tube fed Stevens 410. If I remember correctly I paid $35 in 1954.

I now shoot a Remington 870 410 pump. All my friends shoot 16 and 12 gauge. Pheasants are not so full of BB’s with a 410.

Of course they all tease me for shooting a girlie gun. Pheasant under glass at my house is delectable. (no BB’s)

Well. that tears it. I have a long barreled .45-70 that supposedly makes a good shotgun when loaded without a shot cup. I am going to load up some rounds and then go bird hunting.

It functions as a good 48 gauge shotgun from what I am told.
.410 is 64 gauge.
