Georgia to keep ‘Stand Your Ground’ law?
Dalton Daily Citizen ^ | May 6, 2012 | Mark Millican

A spokesman for a grassroots organization who believes citizens should have a right to defend themselves in public said Georgia — like Florida with its “Stand Your Ground” law that has been used as a defense in a racially charged shooting case — should not repeal its own Stand Your Ground measure under political pressure.

“If you’re taking your family to a football game or to a party downtown or whatever, and you have no control over what neighborhood you’re in, you should still be able to protect yourself,” said Jerry Henry, executive director of GeorgiaCarry.Org. “In my opinion, the Stand Your Ground law places the criminality where it belongs — and that’s on the aggressor and not on the victim.”

Contrary to the “wee-wee’d” up anti-gun crowd, Stand Your Ground does not equal open season on anyone scary looking.

Are they alluding to the Trayvon scrape in Florida? When did Zimmerman ever bring up “Stand Your Ground”? His case alleges self defense whilst under a criminal attack in progress. “Stand Your Ground” isn’t even invoked, which is about not having to back down from a mere THREAT.

No, it hasn't, at least not yet. In fact, if Trayvon was on top of George Z, reaching for his weapon as he smacked his head into the ground, it's self-defense and "Stand Your Ground" would have nothing to do with it.

It means you aren’t obligated to duck, dodge, and try to hide to get away from a threat, and if the threat turns deadly you can deal with it in like manner without incurring criminal guilt.

Not to worry. Georgia’s stand your ground law isn’t going anywhere. We are possibly going to constitutional carry also.

“Stand your ground” serves only to force the government to acknowledge and respect that if you are justified in shooting someone, running away isn’t an option.

Political pressure? Meh! It’s racist pressure, it is the race hustlers taking their hate to another level. The democrap party could not exist if they could not herd blacks and other ‘minority voters’. And yes, I meant ‘herd’, as in hustle the animals along to their doom.

If the gun comtrol crowd did manage to somehow do away with “Stand Your Ground”, they can’t do away with jury nullification, and no real Southerner is going to convict anyone who fights back in self defense!

Under the FL Stand Your Ground statute, the deceased dirtbag’s family cannot sue in civil court either.

You are correct, but there is another part to the Florida Stand Your Ground law, the tort reform part. It is this part of the law that I believe the left really hates. The tort reform part of the requires that the defendant be granted immunity from lawsuit if they are not arrested. If they are arrested and during an immunity hearing, the judge determines that there is no preponderance of the evidence to bring charges, then immunity from lawsuit still holds.

This is what I believe is the real reason for the assault on the Florida Stand Your Ground law. The lawyers cannot use racial extortion to make money off the case if George Zimmerman is not arrested or if he is found immune from lawsuit in the immunity hearing.

Once he goes to trial, he loses the civil immunity granted by Stand Your Ground. That is why the huge push to require him to go to trial, even though there is almost no way that a prosecutor can convict in this case.
