New Haven Kidnapping Suspect Has 55 Convictions, Officials Say
The Hartford Courant ^

The man accused of kidnapping a 26-year-old Wallingford woman in New Haven on Saturday has 55 convictions, including 15 for felonies, court officials said Monday.

Albert Leclaire, 43, of Massachusetts Avenue in East Haven, is wanted for a similar incident that took place earlier in the week and involved a Yale student, officials said.

He was held with bail set at $1 million.

Leclaire was arrested on Saturday, after a girlfriend's desperate text messages to her boyfriend, indicating she had been kidnapped led cops to rescue her in New Haven.

Leclaire was naked from the waist down when he was arrested, police said.

The woman texted "Help…" to her boyfriend around 6 a.m. Saturday, setting in motion a frantic, hour-long chain of events that led to her rescue, according to police.

After her abductor forced his way into her car, claiming to have a gun, he allegedly demanded she drive him to bank ATMs and take him to buy drugs, which she said she did, according to New Haven police.

But when he insisted she perform a sex act on him, the woman refused, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, had called her boyfriend earlier to report she was having car trouble, but thought she'd be all right getting home, police said. When the boyfriend hadn't heard from her, he drove to New Haven to look for her, police said.

The woman was able to periodically indicate her location via texts, and the boyfriend reported the information to Wallingford police, who were relaying it to New Haven police, cops said.

Haven’t you heard on NH’s new “Strike 16 and you’re out” law?

Good thing we can save money by not enforcing or getting rid of "three strikes".

Note to self: Never get in a car with a half naked man named “Albert”.

That is why every state needs a “three strikes” law for violent criminals.

However, the penalty for the “third strike” should always be execution.

After the Lindbergh case, the death penalty could be imposed for kidnapping.
The libs began getting it off the books after the Caryl Chessman execution.

Sounds like he’s related to someone or has connections that keep him out of prison. I’d look at the judges and prosecutors.

I’ve read the full story now. Looks like the cops were planning to drive on by and not see anything until the boyfriend forced their hand. I’d suggest that he and the girlfriend stay out of the area.

Violent criminals I agree.

Here in Washington State I did some work at the local prison. A guard stayed with me, and during a lunch break told me his son was in for life on a third strike. First one was drugs, second one was burglary. The kid was straightening out, going back to vo-tech school, etc., but still had the same lousy “friends”. One night they ran out of beer, and one of his friends said “Joe” owed him $20, drive me over there and I’ll get the $20 and we’ll go get more beer.

Turns out the son drove, waited in the car, and then drove off after the guy got the money he was owed. Except he wasn’t owed it, and the guy stole it (several hundred), and now the son is in prison for life. At least that was the dad’s (and son’s) story. And all the dad could say was “I told him to get different friends, but he wouldn’t listen”.

And then you read some story like this guy that is REALLY an animal and loose.

I regularly make critical comments on the way things are often done in Louisiana, where I live. However, the legislature did put a really draconian (Well no, Draco's Code mandated the death penalty for most felonies.) criminal code some years ago. One feature besides very long prison time for certain convictions is a career criminal enhancement to penalties. This fellow would have been at Angola doing life or 75 years with no parole or probation long ago. Enlightened Connecticut could take a hint from the Pelican State this time, for certain as they say here.
