Bake sales, the calorie-laden standby cash-strapped classrooms, PTAs and booster clubs rely on, will be outlawed from public schools as of Aug. 1 as part of new no-nonsense nutrition standards, forcing fundraisers back to the blackboard to cook up alternative ways to raise money for kids.

Nanny State Totalitarians in the Massachusetts legislature need to get a life. I hope some enterprising New Hampshire town, just over the state line invites would-be Massachusetts folks wanting to do a bake sale to do it there. I think that would make a statement. Have a FOX news crew accompany anyone coming back with proceeds, in case Massachusetts State Gestapo tries any funny-business and harassment.

I wouldn't know where to begin just deconstructing this single sentence. First I really doubt the schools are "cash strapped", how about firing all those bureaucrats and administrators, cutting back on School board trips and stuff. Cut non-essential funding from the budget like the condom budget and cut non-essential core curriculum too. No more history of the labor movement and pro-gay sex ed.

"state officials are pushing schools to expand the ban 24/7 to include evening, weekend and community events such as banquets, door-to-door candy sales"

Attempts to control eating have been ongoing ever since I can remember.

Candy and other sweets taste good. Kids want to eat them. By preventing kids from eating them, the kids both feel deprived and get the idea that sweets must be really special. Perhaps the kids don’t have much ability to obtain sweets when they’re little, but when they are teens or adults and have more control over which foods they eat, they’re going to go for the tasty treats they were deprived of as children. Plus, they’ll binge on those treats, since they were never taught to eat treats in moderation.

I’ve seen this happen in my own family... true, it’s anecdotal evidence, but I think it bears formal studying.

I wonder how much food naziism contributes to the current obesity “epidemic”.
