LOL my absentee ballot from NC arrived last week, and it had a sticker paperclipped to the ballot. I laughed at it...did they really think I was going to stick it on and wear it around northern VA, confusing most people and making myself look stupid to the rest?! I gave it to my 4 yr old, who is quite sticker crazy.

Checked ‘yes’ for amendment one today. Got to vote for Mr. Newt, too!

So did I! I had to wait in line about half an hour which is unusual in a primary election. The state-wide races had several people running for each position. I did some research and tried to vote for the most conservative one I could find. Also, I did NOT vote for our incumbent representative Walter B. Jones. He claims to be a conservative, but his record shows otherwise. BTW, It still makes me uncomfortable to see directions for voting posted in Spanish. IMO, in order to vote in America you should be able to read the voting directions and the ballot in English!

When folks are actually allowed to VOTE on the issue, ‘gay marriage’ is defeated with very few exceptions.

The whole line used by opponents about how the amendment is unnecessary because state law already bans gay marriage is one of the most deceptive parts of a campaign based on lies and deception.

They know full well that the state law has no power against activist state courts, and they are the very ones who would seek to have state courts overturn the law and impose state recognition of same-sex unions in NC.

I’d have so much more respect for them if they’d run an honest campaign for once and say “yes we support gay marriage, and we oppose the amendment because we want to have the option of (in the absence of you rubes agreeing with us or in the absence of a federal court decision) having state judges impose gay marriage on NC.”

But now it’s on to the federal courts. And while victories like the one today in NC are heartening, they won’t mean anything if Anthony Kennedy decides to invoke his sweet mystery of life type of jurisprudence instead of the sane, rational, Constitutional thinking he displays on Second Amendment issues. The Left wins is greatest victories in the Culture War in the Sup Court; this will be no different.

My Church does not recognize state authority over marriage in any way. Marriage is essentially a contract between two people and any two people can enter into a contract at will for any reason.
