Gay-marriage advocates fear setback in North Carolina

Opponents of a constitutional amendment to define marriage in North Carolina say they’ve faced an uphill battle in getting their message out about the broad impact of the proposed change, with the latest polling showing that the state will likely follow 30 others in approving anti-gay marriage measures.

Voting began early Tuesday on the amendment and candidate races in the 2012 primary, but 512,000 people -- or 8 percent of registered voters -- already have participated through absentee ballot, according to the State Board of Elections. That record turnout surpassed even the 2008 primary, which included Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the ballot, according to Democracy North Carolina.

The amendment, also known as Amendment One, would make marriage the only domestic legal union that would be valid in the state. But opponents say the measure is unnecessary since North Carolina already has a statute in place banning gay marriage, and it could jeopardize domestic violence protections for women and affect health benefits for domestic partners.

,,,,

Recent polling by Public Policy Polling, a group that works for Democratic candidates and progressive causes, finds the amendment has the support of 55 percent of the state's voters, with 39 percent against.

Did my part at about 8AM this AM. My little old polling place had a line which it usually does not especially for “just a primary”.

My pet peeve - those stupid “I voted” stickers are lame beyond words. On my way out I *very politely* told the guy at the door that I did not need or require a sticker and he seemed so taken aback - almost like I was leaving a store without paying for an item. Whatever.

“and it could jeopardize domestic violence protections for women and affect health benefits for domestic partners.”

Hogwash. Domestic violence will still be a crime and nothing prevents anyone from entering into a contract.

NC’ers, if you haven't voted yet, hurry. Liberals are not a majority in this country; they just get most of the attention. We can save this republic—starting today.

Of course they face an uphill battle, because the public is actually getting a say rather than some unaccountable judge or a bunch of leftist legislators in safe seats. Homosexual marriage always fails whenever the people get to vote on it, even in leftist CA and OR.

“Opponents of a constitutional amendment to define marriage in North Carolina say they’ve faced an uphill battle in getting their message out....”

Huh? Almost every TV station, many churches, schools and colleges, every single newspaper, and many radio stations have fallen over themselves “helping us understand” how we need to embrace gay rights, including gay marriage. Hollywood and Washington chimed in. It's hard to think of a celebrity, other than the Billy and Franklin Graham, with the courage to stand up to the Gay Agenda folks. We've been inundated with Gay propaganda in NC. Asheville is the new Key West. Can't get their message out?

Wah-h-h-h-h!

FWIW....

I vote in a deep red precinct. At 7:30, I was voter #121. Lines were out the door.

I'll wait until the votes are counted, here, but I think that the Marriage Amendment passes, and Dems get a real slapdown.

You could have taken the “stupid” sticker and left it at that.

But that would have shown class.

Give them credit - they’ve managed to invert the old adage and are now blaming the messenge and not the messenger!

Twitter was absolutely awash in PC tweets today so this ‘uphill battle’ is the usual rubbish.

What a lot of cowards who lack any sort of self-awareness. They can’t comprehend opposition when they’ve been coddled for life.

Allowing SSAD (same sex attraction disorder) marriages diminishes the term marriage for everyone of us normal people.

If they want and must have state sanctioned unions call them fudge packers, beaver unions, SSAU (same sex abnormal union)but leave the normal people alone.

Are Santorum, Gingrich or others on the ballot there besides the final 2?

I am tired of the slant! They could just as well stated, "...with the latest polling showing that the state will likely follow 30 others in approving marriage protection measures."

It gets on my nerves the way every dang news source panders to the LGBT crowd! Screw them and the horse they rode in on - oh wait, never mind!

You could have not eaten the cornflakes that someone unfortunately peed on this morning but that would have required an above room temperature IQ.

Approved by 30 states, must mean that more voters support traditional marriage than homosexual unions. Get a clue MSNBC the people do not want this.

It was unusually crowded at the poll when I went at 12:45 today.

The poll workers in my precinct are friends who volunteer to man the polling place for twelve hours.

Unlike your poll workers, they don't get snarky comments, from condescending jerks like you or otherwise.

Capiche?
