Lugar Defeated by Mourdock in Republican Primary

Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., one of the longest-serving members of the Senate, lost the Republican primary to state Treasurer Richard Mourdock on Tuesday. With 14 percent of the vote counted according to the AP tally, NBC News has called the race for Mourdock, who leads Lugar 61 percent to 39 percent.

Facing a headwind of tea party anger and hamstrung by a lingering story about his out-of-state residency, Lugar's campaign struggled badly in the final weeks of the campaign to make a forceful case for his re-election. Mourdock's bid was boosted by national conservative support from groups like the anti-tax Club For Growth, which ran a series of negative ads against the incumbent.

Perhaps ten months if this isn't a deal until January 2013.

Waiting for the MSM pundits to tell us this was a special case and doesn't really mean anything about the power of the tea party in the coming elections.
Sweat you lying bastards, sweat!

Let's hope that Murdoch can prevail in November.I'll bet that the Rats will throw everything spare dollar they have at his opponent. And no,,,I'm not some RINO lamenting Lugar’s demise...I honestly have *no* knowledge of Indiana politics so I don't know who can or cannot win there. But hey,if Scott Brown can win in Massachusetts then *anything’s* possible.

Romney is in place simply because there were too many candidates claiming the conservative mantle.

May I suggest a modest correction?

...too many weak candidates claiming the conservative mantle??

Fact is, every one of the choices on the conservative side was deeply flawed.

I heard Lugar had an “F” rating from the NRA.

Good riddance.

Hardly the problem ~ there were 7 RINOs in the race and they were there for the purpose of confusing the voters while Romney bought his way to the top of the heap.

I thought it truly amazing he still rarely got much above 20% ~

Next time NO RINOS.

Oh, I do agree with that last statement - too many "weak" candidates claiming the conservative mantle.

Had there actually been a strong conservative in the race, not even the "conservative" media/RNC/establishment would have been able to hoist Romney to the top!

It will be a miracle if Mitt wins - even against Hussein.

He may pull a “Specter”: switch parties and run as a Democrat. Or a “Lieberman”: run as an independent.

Case in point... the other Mormon who was a Governor of Utah. I forget his name.
