Concealed-carry law flawed (Wisconsin barf alert)
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 09 may 2012 | Jay Miller

Last year, Wisconsin became the 49th state to allow residents to carry concealed weapons. Although there may be comfort in numbers, I personally don't feel more comfortable - or secure - knowing this law is on the books. Also, recent news stories have only added to my discomfort.

On April 20, the state Department of Justice announced that it had issued its 100,000th concealed-carry permit and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen offered that it would be not surprising if total permits exceed 125,000.

That means a lot of folks will be carrying concealed weapons in all sorts of places. Sure, the law bars certain groups, such as convicted felons, from obtaining permits and generally allows businesses to prohibit concealed weapons on their premises. However, the restrictions don't go nearly far enough.

The problem is that too many things in too many places can go wrong, and the consequences may, well, be fatal.

Perhaps most disturbing is that the law does not mandate adequate training. As Journal Sentinel editorial writer and columnist James E. Causey reported in an April 15 column, those seeking permits are only required to take a two-hour firearm safety course and no part of it mandates hands-on instruction, much less spending time at a gun range to practice.

Here’s the pattern:

100,000,000 civilians were murdered by their own governments in the 20th century while those governments were installing socialism. Socialism has never worked anywhere without impoverishing the population. It doesn’t work and the left still wants to try it again

Private citizens carry concealed weapons in 49 states without bloodbaths, shoot out or bullet-ridden road rage but the left still predicts mayhem if people are allowed to exercise their rights.

It seems the answer is simple; the left is simply unable to learn anything.

“concealed-carry permit”
A permit to exercise a right? After the bs with fast and furious. One can only wonder which people will be issued a permit to exercise a right.

Jay Miller of Whitefish Bay is a tax attorney.

What a pathetic simpering excuse for a man. He really needs to get out of Whitefolks Bay and spend more time in the heart of Milwaukee. Then he'll understand why law-abiding folks want the right to carry. They just want a fair chance to shoot back.

The Second Amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms.

That said, with rights come responsibilities. Yes, it is up to you, but if you choose to strap on a firearm, you have a responsibility to those around you to know how to use it. If you don’t train before carrying a weapon, you’re a damned fool, and fools endanger the rights of all of us. The vast majority of those who carry understand this.
