President Obama and his lieutenants aren't the only ones whose views on same-sex marriage are "evolving."
Republicans -- including prominent conservative office-holders, pundits and activists -- are increasingly endorsing key parts of the gay-rights agenda.
What do former Vice President Dick Cheney, Governor Chris Christie, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, former Governor Sarah Palin, columnist Ann Coulter and anti-tax activist Grover Norquist have in common? They're all prominent conservatives, and they've all made overtures to the gay community.
Cheney publicly endorsed gay marriage years ago. In January, Christie appointed New Jersey's first openly gay Supreme Court justice. Priebus has done fundraisers with the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights group. Palin hinted that she supported repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Coulter and Norquist sit on the advisory board of GOProud, a gay conservative advocacy group.
There have been noteworthy developments at the state and federal levels. In March, a majority of New Hampshire Republican legislators joined Democrats to reject a bill that would have repealed a gay marriage law and replaced it with civil unions. And in 2011, New York legalized same-sex marriage with the decisive support of four Republican senators, marking the first time in the nation that a legislative body controlled by Republicans approved either same-sex marriage or civil unions. According to a recent Politico story, House Republicans have "quietly worked behind the scenes to kill amendments that reaffirm opposition to same-sex unions." Politico reporters interviewed House Republicans and found that gay issues "hardly register" with them.
Politico describes the change as "one of the swiftest shifts in ideology and strategy for Republicans, as they've come nearly full circle on same-sex politics.

Billy Graham came out FOR the NC marriage amendment and countered Bill Clinton’s robo-calls attacking it.
Dems were making the same argument to defeat it that they used in 2004 against a federal constitutional amendment on marriage, that it is not necessary. Recall in 2004 Dems and libs assured us that DOMA would NOT be repealed by the courts, when that was their main objective. And now their POTUS wants it overturned in the courts.
I wouldn't put too much value in those "conversions" ~ when there's a GLBT situation in the family.
When these people endorse homosexuality the only vote they get is the homosexual vote, they lose ten times what they gain.
Homosexuals have endured for thousands of years, they have endured as an aberration. It is, what it is and should remain so.
The Republican party is going “big tent”. I’m glad I’m not a Republican any more.
It’s way past time for a Conservative party.
Romney vs. Obama? One of them has to lose, I’ll rejoice in that fact, whichever it is.
More than anyone else this supposed conservative has brought the gays back into the party structure and put the Mittbots in charge of entirely too many committees.
Obama can beat that even with the worst economy in American history ~ IF the election of 2006 can be taken as a guide.
He's not going to open up to gay marriage but he may use it as an issue against Republicans.
Any type of relationship is between the individuals and must be documented by civil contract or it will not be acknowledged or recognized for purposes such as beneficiary rights, inheritance, child custody, etc.
All this Republican pandering to homosexuals just confirms that 95+% of blacks will continue to vote for Obama .

It was closer in California, but no ethnic group anywhere rejected the sanctioning of same-sex unions as emphatically as the state’s black voters, according to exit polls. Fifty-three percent of Latinos also backed Proposition 8, overcoming the bare majority of white Californians who voted to let the court ruling stand.
Yes, why are politicians catering to this 1-2% of sex deviants in the population. The other 98% need to express their revulsion louder.
The GOP won’t be around for very long, the way they keep endorsing RINOs and keep succumbing to the very small but very vocal, PC, big-money special-interest groups.
Support of traditional marriage is a proven blockbuster win among the people (even in falling off the leftist cliff California). The GOP should seize the role as defender of American traditions. They have a golden opportunity yet they throw it away for fear of the state-run government-media complex and the activist homosexuals who know how to use their speed-dials.
The GOP is not a conservative party. It is only meant to appear as one, and to siphon off conservative votes, energy, money and time into dead ends and slow betrayals.
It is working as intended.
You are exactly right. The Human Rights Council and GLAAD are enormously rich organizations with hundreds of millions of dollars, big legal departments and PR departments and they never stop working.
They are lobbying your state government, your city and country governments as we speak not to mention the federal government. They have plenty of money to do so, from Home Depot, from the Haas Foundations (Levi-Strauss money) and many others.
They’ve taken over the Episcopal Chruch and they have that money.
Check out the interwoven nature of all those organizations. Plus hundreds of gay and lesbians in the media and in every PR deparment of every big corporation.
But -— it’s all appearance. It’s all virtual. These rich organizations have no support in the gernal population. It’s going to fall apart when people’s belief in the veracity of the media falls apart.
Making "overtures" and endorsing that life-style are NOT the same things.
If a Christian is interested in reaching out to those held in bondage to homosexuality for the purpose of introducing them to the Gospel of Christ, that is a different critter altogether than supporting homosexual marriage.

The institution of marriage — real marriage — predates all governments. It’s inherent in human nature, and its exercise and protection are therefore essential to human dignity.
Government does not have the right to repudiate its obligations to recognize and defend the unique status of marriage, any more than it has the right to back away from its other duties to defend natural law and human dignity.
News to me - that's why it's not fair to include all Republicans in the "OK with Homosexual marriage" pot just because they have a kinder, gentler attitude towards homosexuals.
From a Christian perspective: love them, meet them where they are, speak the truth (in love), show them the Gospel - and Jesus changes hearts, not us....
Marriage is more than a religious symbol. It is a viable economic income generator that benefits the government.
History has proven that society benefits and flourishes when man and wife get married and have children. A conservative and Constitutional oriented government has a real financial reward when healthy marriages work.
However, if a socialist government is in place, we will always see a devaluation of traditional marriages which increases the welfare roles, which increases the tax and spending habits of that government, which decreases personal liberties and freedoms.
It all begins (and ends) with marriage. If you want a strong, healthy government that intrudes very little on your health and wealth; then you support pro-marriage initiatives.
If you want a government that supports gay marriages, gays in the military, the erosion of the family, stands by while educations standards plummet, a government that replaces husbands and fathers with welfare checks, and on and on and on we go.... then you support Obama. Or Romney.
“Get Government out of “marriage” altogether. Treat every person, gay/straight, single/married, as an individual under the Law for any and all purposes.”
A sure recipe for social and economic failire.
And once you allow today's government into "marriage," tomorrow's government can decide what it wants marriage to be, or not to be.
Much like the TSA and other Bush-era initiatives we all cheered then, but are regretting now.
