If this story is true, it is an outrage.

And it is another statist goal achieved by playing to conservative emotional responses. There is an unbroken string of these types of unconstitutional statist dream laws dating back to the 70's, and the GOP is 100% responsible - for elevating the need to score cheap political points with the base above an unshakable faith in liberty.

Neither faction of the Federal Government Party minds the slide into totalitarianism, as long as their offices and personal wealth are not affected.

why did you take your computer along? How hard can it be to get a spare laptop, or to rent one for the trip and just carry those few files you will need?

Or to ship it to pick up at your destination, then ship it home when you return?

"A couple of years back, I made it onto a list. I have no idea how I made it to that list"

No idea? LOL. The guy needs to buy a clue and not be a smart ass at the border. You have no "rights as an American" at the POE. We may not like it but that is the law. Those CBP officers are basically god in that area. They can do whatever they want within the regulations. So my advise if he wants to travel is follow the ICE program, tell the truth and don't pick fights with them.

To clarify a major error in the narrative.

“We headed back to the US through the CBP (Customs and Border Patrol)”

No, he did not.

He went through the CBP, Customs and Border PROTECTION, point of entry (POE). Agents at the POE are Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), not Border Patrol. They are two very separate and distinct organizations-—from the color of their uniform (blue for ICE, green for Border Patrol) to their missions (ICE works POE, Border Patrol works between the POEs).

Border Patrol Agents are the one’s in the boonies, hours from back-up and they take-down illegal aliens, drug smugglers and human smugglers. They are the one’s that take personal risks and sometimes suffer consequences from our own governments actions (Agents Ramos and Compean, and Agent Brian Terry for recent examples).

“So. Our border patrol is comprised of thugs!”

Be sure to aim your bile correctly. . .otherwise you will be correctly viewed as a fool if you misidentify the agency/Agents and aim your fire at the wrong people.

By “ICE,” I mean CBP Officers. . .should have been more clear. Posting in haste leads to mistakes.

There's no fight in this story, just the usual bend over and bleat about it afterwards.

I disagree. He is fighting back with the power of the "pen" and the faith that concerned citizens will take his message, pass it on to others and through the established system of government make the necessary changes. Not every fight must be physical.

“When you come back into the United States with a United States Passport, you are an American citizen on American soil. I’m not sure how we American citizens ever gave up our rights under the fourth amendment”

FRiend, by law the port of entry is not “american soil” until you prove your citizenship/status and the officer decides to let you in.

No rights at the POE? GMAB.

The writer is indeed a "threat" as the title says. His supine compliance is a threat to America, or what traces of it remain.

You think he has no rights, he thinks he doesn't have to stand up for his rights. The FF must be writhing in their tombs that it's come to this.

Period!

If you present a valid US Passport, the only thing your beloved "officer" has any say in as to whether it is indeed your passport. If he has probable cause to believe it is not, then he may detain you for that reason and that reason alone. When one comes back into the US, the Immigration folks check your Passport. It's the Customs folks who think they have some right to search you. You don't get to them until after the Immigration guy has waived you through.

“The pen is mightier than the sword,” only when wielded by someone possessed of skill and courage.
Otherwise the pen is but a pea shooter.

I wasn't “aiming bile” at anyone. My concern was being able to protect yourself from bears in remote areas. Try getting a gun across either direction. Easy in the 70’s, 80’s and even the 90’s. Not so today.

Life as we have known it will cease to exist unless we all pour our efforts into this next election.

I'm a little late to this thread, but I agree with cuban and others: 1) we are beyond political solutions at this point; and 2) Life as we have known it is PRESENTLY passing away, and mathematically, there is NOTHING anyone can do to stop it.

All we can do is adapt. Move to a lower population density area, as cuban did, and I am working to do. (I'm already in the third-lowest-pop-density county in NC already, but I'm looking to move further out.)

When people finally figure out what has happened in our financial sector and government, the civil society WILL break down. Count on it. And corrupt cops and border patrol agents WILL be part of the people.

People in general are going to be the problem.

But there is something we can do now: prepare. Store food, water, supplies, ammo, guns. Get the skills required to survive in less-than-ideal circumstances. Learn to defend yourself and your family.

And we can build community now. I can reach out to three of my immediate neighbors, and we can be armed and ready to repel looters in minutes. And this is in a small-town housing addition. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS with like-minded people NOW, for mutual aid later when the fertilizer contacts the fan-blades.

Repeating: no political solutions are available now, civil society will break down, prepare yourself and your family, and build a mutual-aid society in your immediate area.

ml/nj:When you come back into the United States with a United States Passport, you are an American citizen on American soil.
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

You are exactly right!
Having organizations and rules that are extraconstitutional (Beyond what is provided for in the Cnstitution) has got to STOP! We have a War on Terror, BATFE, ICE, CBP, DEA etc All of which act like the Bill of Rights does not apply to them.

I am with Joe. We need to recover our freedom from Homeland inSecurity. They have betrayed us. The assumption that they could be trusted with the “anti-terror” power we have permitted them to have is totally bogus. They adopted the up-side-down evil of political correctness and go after Americans based on their political activities.

Congress has to wake up and reel them in big time.

bump. We've been losing our freedoms bit by bit in this country for decades.

I would strongly suggest the author of this article cancel all of his credit cards.

You know why the bill of rights doesn't apply to them? Because they have no compunction against using lethal force against you to make you "comply". That's the difference between them and us. They don't have the constitution on their side, but they do have force, and a willingness to use it. It will continue to get worse, until we start actually resisting them.

“So, our protectors are now our emeny?”

Yes, yes they have.

“You want to live with open borders?”

The one does not follow from the other.

If you have a security guard who is not doing his job, or who you catch stealing from you, having no security guard at all is not your only option. You could also get a better security guard, and put safeguards in place to make sure that the next guy doesn’t repeat the same bad behavior.

LOL. Spoken like a babe in the woods. It’s the same anywhere in the world. Give some lip to a border guard and it’s up against the wall.
