Personal note: Back on June 03, 2011 I posted the story of a Tuskegee airman's death, It is now determined that his story was a hoax.

Original Post: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2729241/posts

Today's story: In November 2011, Samuel M. Garrison Jr. was honored posthumously with his name featured on the new Watkins-Logan-Garrison Texas State Veterans Home.

Garrison died May 26, 2011, at age 88 as a celebrated war hero, a famed Tuskegee P-38 fighter pilot who told mesmerizing stories of long-ago dog fights and downed enemy aircraft.

In the two years before his death, he signed autographs, attended receptions and accepted a mayor's proclamation, all in his honor.

To many, his persona seemed bigger than life when he appeared at various social events sporting a bright red jacket dripping with medals that represent valor and selflessness in the line of duty.

That’s a pretty damming article at the link, about his “Stolen Valor”, outright lies, fraud and deception. Very sad for his daughter to find this out about her dad. RIP, Mr Garrison.

I never knew that any of the active Tuskeegee fighter groups were equipped with P-38’s. That alone would have had me checking this guy’s story.

You have to understand that his biography was a composite....

I also knew that the best plane they flew was the P-51 Mustang.

“The Tuskegee Airmen initially were equipped with Curtiss P-40 Warhawks fighter-bomber aircraft, briefly with Bell P-39 Airacobras (March 1944), later with Republic P-47 Thunderbolts (June–July 1944), and finally with the aircraft with which they became most commonly associated, the North American P-51 Mustang (July 1944).”

Sad. Sad that someone had the need to present themselves in that fashion, sad that his family and friends had to learn the truth.

I just don’t get how people do that.

It is disgusting to see white Republican racists try to deny this American hero the respect he earned with his years of military service.

Perhaps it is time for Obama to insert himself into the controversy: "Sam Garrison could have been my dad."

"Equally puzzling to some is the fact ... the group he claimed as his own, has no records of him. And no one remembers him."

Strangely obama-like.

It’s not that uncommon Sir. Theres a group of us get together once a year here in the Permian Basin, all Vietnam Vets and all served with the 101st. You’d be surprised how many show up for some of our events and claim to be Vietnam vets. It don’t take long to figure them out.

They flew P-339s, P40s, P47s, and P51C and P51Ds. The only major USAAF pursuit craft they DIDNT fly was the P38 Lightning.

Garrison plane-jacked the P-38 from the Luftwaffe. They had captured one intact and were using it to deliver pizza from Naples to Luftwaffe bases in Rumania and Bulgaria, keeping them warm on the plane's exhaust manifolds.

To dispute his account of the heroic action proves racism. He, BTW, always wore a hoodie while flying. The P-38 had an ineffective cockpit heater
