Poll puts Walker up nine in recall fight; Update: WI Dems “furious” with DNC over lack of support

Now that Democrats have ended their divisive recall primary in Wisconsin, one would expect the polling to show their nominee to be gaining some traction against sitting Governor Scott Walker. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was considered the stronger of the Democrats challenging Walker in the unusual recall election, and polls just after the recall showed him nearly within the margin of error of the incumbent. This week, however, a new poll from We Ask America of over 1200 likely voters puts Walker on top by nine, 52/43:

While other polls also show Walker in the lead, no one is suggesting that this race is anywhere near over. Walker only leads among self-described Independent voters by 47.6%-44.6%, and the underlying numbers seem fluid. Still, some of Walker’s detractors have been vocal about the fact that Walker was duly elected in 2010 and in most states would not be able to be challenged with a recall without greater cause. And a whopping 95% of those called said they plan to vote in the June 5th election which will have the national spotlight on it.

I’m hoping for a Walker landslide to see Ed Schultz’ head explode.

One way this poll makes sense is if Walker is capturing a larger share of Dems than his opponent’s share of republicans. That sounds plausible to me. Alternatively the pollster oversampled Republicans—but maybe they’re actually more motivated so that’s okay too.

Response To: Walker is up by 9 among all voters but only up three among independents. Isn’t WI a blue state? I don’t get it.

If in fact Walker does win, and by a large margin, I think it would be great if he came back and promulgated a Right to Work bill! Imagine the howls then!

Speaking of the money trail, I was very confused about how much money was spent last year in Wisconsin state Senate recall elections.

I heard that the liberal side spent $36 million in recall elections against Republican state Senators. They won two of those elections, but Republicans still controlled the state Senate after those recalls.

Why spend so much money on a handful of state Senate seats in one state, when there are so many other election battles to be fought? I never understood that.

Could it be that, the Democrats don’t want to pour any more money into Wisconsin? Dems. don’t have unlimited resources. They have to pick and choose where the money goes.

I shoot at an outdoor range west of Racine. The route I take is sort of a “triangle” route from Illinois to Racine, due west to the range, then southwest and south back into Illinois. As a result, I go through several towns and past quite a few properties.

Last year, and this spring, there were an abundance of “Recall Walker” signs on people’s front lawns. This spring, the sign balance appeared to be about 50/50, maybe leaning towards the recall.

Last week, there were plenty of “Stand With Walker” signs to be seen...and all of ONE “Recall” sign the whole trip!

I’m optimistic....

Going by yard signs, Walker should crush Barrett. I’ve seen a lot for Walker, but I haven’t seen nary any signs at all for Barrett. The election’s still three weeks away.

Personally, I’m not going to believe ANY polls on this-good or bad. I am going to keep working on people to get out to vote June 5th and telling them to tell all of their conservative friends also. It will take many of us to beat the dems’ cheating. They are sending absentee ballots to the Universitys even knowing the students are not supposed to vote in Wisconsin.

Possible. The publicity involving civil service unions may be viewed as too negative right now also.

I want to see that too and I live in Arizona!

We may be at the point where they simply cut their losses.
Baloney! They view the fight here as existential. And they should. We better keep that view as well.

BTW, I apologize. I did not read the first sentence where you said you were the local union leader. You will obviously know better than me what they are thinking.
