(CNN) -- A Florida mother shot her four children early Tuesday morning before turning the gun on herself at her home in Port St. John, police said.
A neighbor heard shots at 4:50 a.m. and then responded to a knock at the door to find three of the children. The mother, Tanya Thomas, 33, called them back home, Brevard County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tod Goodyear told reporters.
Deputies arrived at the house several minutes later to hear more shots fired.

I hope the truth comes out. i.e. Did she have psychiatric history of any kind? Bi-polar? Was she about to lose kids to father in custody battle, etc?

Local LE knew the house well. The sons were “terrifying the neighborhood.” They shot out a neighbors windows with a BB gun.
Neighbors reported hearing the mother screaming in the house at midnight; this was a frequent occurance.
Father didn’t live in the home, but lived close by.
As to the other question, guess the answer. You’ll be right.

When I was a kid, a family down the street from us was having problems. Both the mother and father lost their jobs when the meat packing company in town closed.
The 2 adults took poison, but the 2 kids were boiled to death in a big caldron used to de-hair livestock when they were butchered.
I’m voting for a combination of paranoid schizophrenic mother and absent (probably fleeing) father. I knew a family like this. The kids all survived, but they certainly weren’t in great shape. Having your mother stand over your bed with a rifle pointed at your head telling you she can pull the trigger now or any time she wants is not exactly conducive to a good family situation.
Prayers for all of them.
I had to push myself to the absolute edge of bankruptcy to win my custody battle, even with stacks of psychiatric records showing the deep illness of my then wife.
She finally succeeded in killing herself less than three years later.
Just heard this on the radio. Sounded like the children were wounded when knocking on the neighbors door, they returned home where mom got a second chance at them.
I can’t beleive it, who would go back??? Even a kid, after getting shot, or even just shot at?

And what the heck is up with the neighbor? Answering the door, and then letting the kids go back to mom (after hearing shots over there). Weird. Although I guess that is what happens when the neighbor doesn’t have a gun or the mentality to go up against the known crazy lady.

just read that the idiot father who shot his wife and one dtr at a Cracker Barrel managed to make the other dtr dead as well....

That's the kind of scenerio I was afraid of. If a Mom or Dad wants to kill their child, they WILL do it regardless of the "tools" available. Just so sad.

The mother then shot them again, killing them, Goodyear said, according to WKMG.
The other children — Joel Johnson, 12, Jazlin Johnson, 13, and Jaxs Johnson,15 — were all dead, as was Thomas.
