The conventional wisdom: Fiery cable news host goes off the rails, loses his highly influential platform, and is forever forgotten to history.
Alas, what may be true for ex-MSNBC, ex-Current TV host Keith Olbermann is not true for ex-Fox News host Glenn Beck. Beck now earns $80 million, according to Forbes, making him the eleventh highest-paid celebrity on the Forbes Celebrity 100, putting him ahead of Tom Cruise, Donald Trump, and radio's most influential talking head, Rush Limbaugh.
"Who needs Fox News? Beck is his own network now," the editors at Forbes, who released the Celebrity 100 list today, write. "GBTV, his internet-only video channel, already has more than 300,000 subscribers, making it the biggest component of his fast-growing multimedia empire, Mercury Radio Arts. The conservative host and "rodeo clown" -- his words -- also has his own book imprint with Simon & Schuster, a news website called The Blaze, a live political comedy act and, of course, "The Glenn Beck Program," syndicated by Premiere Radio."
Beck was at number 30 on the celebrity power list last year, he now finds himself at 23. He is, despite the conventional wisdom, anything but irrelevant.

>>Who says crazy doesnt sell.<<
Honestly, unless you are at least reading “The Blaze”, you’re missing out on the only person vetting Obama at the moment.
“Who says crazy doesnt sell.”
America elected Obama...
He still does his radio show.
He couldn’t possibly have had “several million viewers” on CNN, mostly because he was on its HLN. I don’t think HLN ever broke a million.
You’re so right. The Blaze is incredible.
You forgot the Anti-Mormon posts.
I don’t care what people think of Beck. I’d rather pay 5.00 a month for GBTV than all the crap on cable.
The man can make any concept smack you in the face.
Did you see last night? He started off talking about how the government outlawed bake sales and demonized RiceKrispie treats, munching away on all the treats spread on a table. He then moved on to another table with burgers and deep fried crab, talking about how Michelle Obama is telling us that we can’t eat any of it.
Then he dropped the bomb. On those two tables were all the things that we have pictures of Michelle consuming since she started lecturing us.
BAM! No one does it like Beck.
He deserves all of the credit for starting his own webwork. It was a giant risk, but it paid off.
But he can also thank Soros, whose boycott of Beck’s Fox sponsors drove Beck to create his own network. Thanks, George!
Flapp Jackson in the Morning this Morning used to make more than Beck ever thought about making.
Freegards
-—I sometimes catch Beck on the radio. He talks a lot but doesnt say much worth listening to. Rush makes you think. Beck makes you turn off your brain.——
You’re right. But his webcast is completely different. It’s his his old Fox show. It’s informative and incisive. When he’s good, he’s unequaled.
My theory is that his radio show, for whatever reason, hasn’t evolved past his “morning zoo” days.
His good show is the result of a former alcoholic’s quest for the truth. It’s noble, unpredictable, informative, uneven, interesting, erratic, insightful, enlightening and entertaining. It’s also a work in progress. Being with him on his journey is half the fun.
He appears to be honestly seeking the truth, which is why I expect him to eventually return to the faith of his youth.

That was a crowning Moment of AWESOME!
It was a Keef slam. I couldn't think of anything more humiliating than the unemployable Olbermann being reduced to sidekick laughing boy on Beck's TV show.
I am a fan of Beck. And unlike some others here, his goofy morning drive time radio jock schtick is my favorite. Wacky radio mixed with conservative politics was a winner for me. When Pat Gray was reading excerpts from Arlen Specter's book, in Specter's voice, I was gasping for breath from laughing so hard. I quit listening when he descended into reverend end times bomb shelter. I couldn't handle more than a couple of minutes, and when that dominated, I stopped tuning in.
Beck is a money making machine with an understanding of media few people have. Oprah could learn a lot from him.
Roger that.
I used to be a big Beck fan. He did some great work outing some of Obama’s many crazies. But his treatment of Palin, crying on the air, non-vetting of Romney. I just think he jumped the shark. I’ll stick to Rush and Levin.
Your loss.
At least read “The Blaze” cause Beck either “took the ball” or was “given the ball” that Andrew Breitbart was working on when he died.
He is vetting Obama. Like for real (commie ties, Muslim Brotherhood in the administration etc. etc.) and everyone else is following HIS lead.
In fact honestly, I’m amazed at how uninformed FReepers are on the subject then I remember, Beck is not well liked here.

Of course you are correct. For reasons inexplicable, I put CNN in the text instead of Fox.
My bad.
non-vetting of Romney

With respect you are completely wrong. He supported Santorum. He vetted Romney, had huge problems with Mitt not being able to go head to head with Obama because of his Massacgusetts health care, He also discussed his problem with prochoice, now prodeath Romney, creamed him for allowing Massachusetts healthcare money to go to Planned Murderhood. Sometimes people here (not you I hope) think he was for Romney because of the Mormon thing. Nothing could be further from the truth. Again with respect.
but I'm glad we have some conservatives to do well in the media...
