First Lady Without a Portfolio (or a Ring) Seeks Her Own Path
The New York Times ^ | May 16, 2012 | MAÏA de la BAUME

Valérie Trierweiler faces an uncommon predicament.

Twice married and twice divorced, she covered French politics as a journalist for more than 20 years with no inkling that she would one day become France’s first lady, certainly not when she fell for François Hollande, a jovial, unglamorous leftist politician who hardly seemed like presidential material.

“I almost want to laugh when I think of it,” Ms. Trierweiler said in a telephone interview.

But Mr. Hollande was elected on May 6 and was sworn in on Tuesday, and now Ms. Trierweiler — whom he calls “the love of my life” — is concerned with preserving her independence while supporting her partner.

“In France, a first lady has no status, and therefore she isn’t supposed to do anything else,” Ms. Trierweiler said. “My perception of life is not to ask François Hollande, who isn’t the father of my children, to support me financially.”

Gush, gush
Slobber, slobber

Every woman should be so lucky to marry be in an open, noncommitted relationship with a socialist leader.

Maybe Maureen Dowd can write a column on the beauty of it.

*gag*

...and the liberals salivate that marriages like this can become the norm here one day.

French First Lady? Sounds more like Mme de Pompadour, or Mme du Barry, official Mistresses to French monarchs.

It gets worse! Twice married and divorced, she left hubby #2 in 2005 for Hollande. They were living together in 2007 when he was still with Segolène Royal who ran against Sarko for President, and lost.

Now Valérie is out in the open, with an ego as big as Moochelle-Antoinette, but a much smaller caboose.

And, as the photos show, she is no Carla Bruni, beautiful and discreet. She is a loudmouth pushy dame with a lot of plastic surgery.

And, as we saw in the transfer of power ceremony yesterday, Hollande is a boor, and boring, with bad manners (he didn’t even accompany Nicolas and Carla to their car, as protocol demands), and in praising every single president since de Gaulle, he couldn’t bring himself to find anything positive to say about Sarko, just wished him good luck.

The kicker is, as all the photos show, Hollande us a small man in every way... he is even shorter than Sarko!

Wow. NY Times readers are sure well-informed by such hard-hitting journalism.

I fell asleep by the third paragraph.

If truth be told she was probably pushing him the entire way. She probably also made a deal with his wife. They have no business being in government.

This is not a marriage! François Hollande is on the record stating he will not marry her, as he would not marry Royal, the mother of his four children because “marriage is a bourgeois institution”.

Pauvre France!

Thanks, Erik
Now all we need are some nice photos if Sarko and Carla.
Some of my French friends walked over to the Elysée Palace to say goodbye and applaud them as they drove away. There was a large cheering crowd. The staff inside the courtyard, and the public outside.

Kitty,
Agree on all counts. Hollande is a weak technocrat, she is a bossy journalist. The wife, or live in girlfriend in this case, always knows.
Deal: To Sego, I’ll make you President, even though he didn’t do much to help here, even tho he was head of the Socialist Party all along.

France deserves better.

In fact, France deserves better than Socialism and/or Islam.

But then, only the French can deliver themselves, no one else can.

I agree; France does deserve better. They already have buyers remorse.

It isn’t too late though. The first round if the legislative elections are in a few weeks, and Hollande is already unpopular for picking a convicted felon for PM and dusting Martine Aubry, daughter if his mentor, Jacques Delors. The left altogether cannot even poll at close to 50% so if they don’t get a majority, Hollande will be forced into a “cohabitation” with the Right, with a rightwing PM and government.

I’ll post more on this when more polling us available.

GAH! She looks like two Pink Plums replaced her cheeks.

No thanks I will take the Grace and Natural Looks of some like a Sarah Palin or Carla Bruni any day! (not to mention not being an Adulterous Air Head!)

These “Carla Bruni is a natural beauty” remarks are killing me. She is loaded with fillers and Botox these days. Very scary looking.

Went to Mass on Sunday in Barcelona in one of the most expensive areas of the city.....there were 19 people at Mass......19!! No WONDER these counties are DOOMED!
