PRETORIA – Fewer South African graduates are confident about remaining in South Africa for the foreseeable future.

According to the latest results from the quarterly PPS Graduate Professionals Confidence Index, which tracks the confidence levels of about 6 000 of South Africa’s graduate professionals, the percentage of respondents who believe they will remain in South Africa for the foreseeable future has dropped by six percentage points to 78%.

Although this is a still a very high percentage, the drop is concerning, says Gerhard Joubert, the head of group marketing and stakeholder relations at PPS, and could point to skills being lost through emigration.

When I lived in Houston, half the people in my neighborhood were Soith Afreekan expats.

You could apply the same headline to many states here in the US; I doubt many graduates in NJ think they have much of a future here.

“Fewer South African graduates are confident about remaining in South Africa for the foreseeable future.”

But how can that be when they have the best constitution!?

Interesting how certain subjects are not mentioned.

I’ve heard that many caucasian South Africans have been emigrating in recent years. I wonder if most of these technical professional young people are white, or of all races of South Africans?

South Africa has gone downhill in many ways since the end of apartheid. Personal security services are a major growth business there, from what I hear, due to the rampant crime.

And, sadly, some predict renewed violence when Mandela passes away. He’s 93, so sometime in the foreseeable future, he may be gone. Some predict that some of the more radical thuggish elements in the ANC, and other rebel types, are holding back out of a certain respect for the old man.

We can discuss that the rampant discrimination of apartheid is gone, and that all people have voting rights and all of those civil rights. But, with such a pandemic of crime having been unleashed, the social order of that country may disintegrate at some point. Political revolution after Mandela is gone is a real possibility. Expropriating property from “evil” whites is a real possibility in the future. Taking over white owned businesses could happen.

That country is in big trouble, sad to say.

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to remain in a country/society that is as unstable as SA. I wouldn’t think that such a place would hold much of a future for any young person.

“due to rampant crime”

It is more than just “crime”.

I suppose they could go to Holland, but whites are becoming a minority there, too.
