The reckless crew is at it again.
Libertarian extremists, who purport to be the face of the tea party movement, and their pals on the Lawyer Left, whose obsession is more rights for mass-murderers, are again making common cause. Their target, once more, is the detention procedure codified in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This time the ringleaders are Representatives Justin Amash (R., MI) and Adam Smith (D., WA). With a new NDAA up for consideration, these congressmen are reprising the starring role played a few months back by Sen. Rand Paul (R., KY). I argued in opposition to Sen. Paul’s gambit here and here.
Under the Smith-Amash amendment, if al Qaeda were to dispatch the second coming of Mohamed Atta & Co. to execute another 9/11-style atrocity in the United States, but this time the FBI managed to apprehend them, they would be given the full rights of American civilian defendants.
Andrew C. McCarthy was a veteran US prosecutor who prosecuted the "Blind Sheikh", Omar Abdel-Rahman, in the 1993 World Trade Center attack. McCarthy was also involved in the prosecution of the bombers of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, as well as the Millennium lot to attack Los Angeles International Airport. He is a constitutional scholar, and a Fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the National Review Institute. In that capacity he co-chairs the Center for Law and Counterterrorism.
In the article linked above, McCarthy debunks the myths propagated by the Pauls with regard to the NDAA and explains why a misguided attempt to overturn it would essentially amount to a "Terrorist Bill of Rights."
Does or does NOT this bill apply to AMERICAN CITIZENS ? Because the above excerpt is intended to convince the reader that it doesnt.

“NDAA” is the name of the annual defense budget.
What you are referring to is a specific section, not the actual authorization/appropriation act itself.
Essentially, you are actually objecting to a part of the military budget, not the actual recurring military budget.
We don’t want people to get knee-jerk and blindly oppose the NDAA every time they hear the name.
That would be too much like liberals.
I called Rep. Amash’s office to politely express outrage over this yesterday. I am so tired of the Paulites and the leftists and their fight for ‘terrorists rights’. These people are sickening with their lies and anti-American sentiments. They will help bring about the next attack with their actions (and I will hold them accountable) and what they do not seem to understand is that the next attack can be 300,000 or 3 million Americans dead. At that point we will lose our freedom and it will be because of thee bozos who are fighting for ‘terrorists rights’.
McCarthy is full of crap. Under the NDAA American citizens can be held without trial or charge indefinetely. Thank God that judge in New York through it out.
Boneheads like him on the right are just as dangerous to the liberties of Americans as the boneheads on the left.
All I know is that in the name of the war on Terror, Republicans and Democrats turned the power they were trusted with against the American people. They sat by while Democrats demonized Christians as worse than Muslim terrorists and they sat by while DHS named a variety of political groups “domestic terrorists.” They are systematically sexually molesting Americans at the airports like Nazis. And are spying on Americans on the internet and with drones. And so much more.
I think they should propose leglislation to abolish the Patriot Act and DHS. Our elite can not be trusted to not turn against the American people and our constitution. They are out of control. They coddle Muslims in the name of political correctness, demonize Americans in the name of political correctness and leave the border wide open for Islamic inflitration. It’s all b.s. It’s a war on Americans.
Argument doesn’t fly. You don’t strip search everyone in the football stadium because there might be a couple of people who have smuggled in hip flasks.
Likewise, you don’t make a law that oppresses 350 million American citizens when you want to nab a few foreign terrorists. Especially if the law is almost never used against terrorists, but only for ordinary common crime, or just suspicion, or even fishing expeditions?
A simple argument: why oppose profiling? They do it in Europe and it works. I am more than willing for some dusky-hued individual to have to be searched every time he boards a plane instead of every single person who gets on the plane with him. Out of “fairness”.
Likewise, we already have 100+ federal police agencies and 16 major intelligence agencies, along with countless state and local police officers sworn to protect and uphold the law.
SO WHY DO WE NEED THE US MILITARY TO ARREST AMERICANS IN AMERICA?
If these police and intelligence agencies, the FBI, the US Marshals service, and the hundreds of thousands of other officers can’t do the job, then they should be fired.
Leave the military to train and conduct wars in other countries. Not police up Americans in violation of the Bill of Rights.
Remember them? Civil rights? Real important stuff there.
Is it such a crisis that a terrorist *might* be accidentally afforded a US citizen’s civil rights, because he is lost among the millions of Americans who have a God given right to have civil rights when confronted by an overpowering government?
Notice the irony of this site, many think we need indefinite detention of US citizens without due process at the discretion of apparatchiks and politicians…but at the same time are outrage over drone flights over American soil.
Of coarse, if you disagree than your not thinking clearly or have been mislead.
And, they’re really offended by the model airplanes. Me, I don’t fear the model airplanes so much, though it does suck when you get the glue on your hands.
