At a hastily called press conference, and flanked by fellow also-ran Michele Bachmann, Cain calls for GOP unity.
The spirit of 2009 was alive on Capitol Hill Wednesday afternoon.
There was Steve King, the conservative Iowa congressman. There was his more polished, nationally famous colleague, Rep. Michele Bachmann. And of course the headlining out-of-town star: Herman Cain. The erstwhile Republican presidential frontrunner was in town speaking to the Congressional Tea Party Caucus, which Bachmann founded, and decided it was the moment to make an endorsement.
Or, to be more accurate, another endorsement. In January, Cain endorsed "we the people." Nine days later, he endorsed Newt Gingrich. And in April, he nearly endorsed Romney -- saying, "it looks like Mitt Romney's going to be that nominee, and we do need to get behind him" -- although that evidently wasn't official. A press conference to announce the latest endorsement was hastily called at the National Republican Club.
As for the endorsement, it wasn't exactly gushing. "We as conservatives know that in order to win, we have got to rally around our nominee," Cain said.
Later, asked whether he was concerned about the presumptive nominee's past support for individual mandates and tax increases, Cain essentially said Romney's governing record ought to be disregarded, since he had sworn to repeal Obamacare. "In the words of my grandfather, what Governor Romney did in Massachusetts, I does not care," Cain explained. What about his prior backing for other candidate? "My endorsement evolved," Cain quipped, a reference to Obama's description of how he came to support gay marriage.

Sigh...
Another day the GOP goes down the tubes.
I see it this way: We’ll have much more credibility if we start the revolution to reestablish the Constitution as the Law of the Land during a Romney administration.

Yep.
We’re sure not going to do anything like that under another 0bama occupation.
Herman should seriously be considered for Sec. Treasury when the time comes.

I’ll agree to it. Cain should be doing that given that his advice at this moment means little. But he is a good person with good ideas, but he angered a bunch of people when He dropped out.
The convention is going to be very fun if Cain, Palin and Gingrich speak. I’m sure Christie will speak too and likely Paul (maybe Ron and Rand).
All of them— including my first choice who didn't run (Palin), my second choice who was slandered out of the race (Cain), and the one who got my vote in my state's primary and then quit (Santorum).
The way things are going, the only people NOT campaigning for Romney this fall will be the Democrats— and FR.
No, this is not an opus; I ain't going anywhere (unless y'all zot me for stating a fact). I'm quite unhappy with Romeny, but I had my vote (Santorum, remember) and now all I have left is November. Danged if I'm giving that up.
“Well have much more credibility if we start the revolution to reestablish the Constitution as the Law of the Land during a Romney administration.”
And find a challenger to take Romney on in 2016. Period. No holds barred. I say Sarah Palin.
Indeed! Yours is a profound statement which radiates far too much logic and maturity for many on this Forum.
What sort of power do you think conservatives are going to have once Romney sells out on issue after issue and Republicans become a shrinking minority in Congress?
another avenger signs up!
When was the last time an incumbent President lost in a primary?
And, if Romney is that much of a disaster, what do you think the Republican party is going to look like in 2016? It will be in worse shape than it was after the Bush Presidency.
True... we need to take back the Senate with Tea Party members. We don't need to have the MARXIST for another term..
The Second Amendment.
Vote Rodgers/Driver = Re-elect Obama/Biden.
Sorry. Undeniable fact once you punch through the emotions.
