Since President Obama declared his support for marriage equality last week, many politicos (including myself) have speculated about whether black voters, who are divided on the issue, will abandon him. The consensus among gay rights supporters and foes alike is a resounding "no." Sure, some black clergy are outraged, but even they admit this issue is no deal breaker. And the ongoing debate over an unlikely black backlash eclipses what promises to be the most profound impact of the president's "evolution."
President Obama has single-handedly dismantled the "don't ask, don't tell" policy within the black church -- that silent disdain on issues of sexuality that renders black gay and transgender people all but invisible, shames people living with HIV, and masquerades as love-the-sinner-hate-the-sin compassion.

Gay marriage got shot down in California mainly due to the high turnout of blacks voting against it. You didn't hear as much about it because it was much safer for gays to protest against little old ladys at Mormon churches than little old ladies in Compton whose grandsons might be gang members.

Gays have a lower birth rate, higher education rate, higher incomes, and a lower incarceration rate. If Barack encourages more gays in black families, it will be the most he has ever done for the black community.
I think most black voters will still vote against gay marriage; probably it will gain just a few percentage points of support because of the Obama endorsement. However, the One will also get 100% of the black vote. His “First Gay President” act will have no effect on that at all.

The article author says that Obama has forced blacks to take a position, where before they could make believe Obama believed in traditional marriage which we could see through from day one from his real policies.
MSNBC has held a few short mini-debates between blacks on the issue of same sex marriage, each debate with a black (liberal) Christian vs black progressive. It is interesting to watch to learn the views of the former.
The views of both are very similar on redistribution and race victim-hood and the federal government, and both always say they are good friends. But the (liberal) black Christian says that the Bible is clear about the definition of marriage. That is the only difference I see so far between the two.
By liberal Christian I don't mean phonies like Pelosi either.
A black Democrat friend told me that this issue, same sex marriage and the Bible, is the one that will cause black Christians the most grief with Obama.
MSNBC treats blacks who oppose same sex marriage on their shows civilly as principled individuals, but they treat whites who argue the same on MSNBC as KKK racists.
As Neal Boortz says, they’re voting for him because he looks like them.
It is straight up racism in every true sense of the word. If I did the same (vote for a candidate because he is of my race) no one would dispute I was a racist. True equality demands we see it the same way.
So I ask the black community the following: Do you want true equality, or do you simply want the whip hand?
