Good point. We have to watch them all after they are in office & primary them/vote them out as soon as possible if they don’t do what they promised &/or someone even more conservative decides to try to unseat them. That way they don’t get so entrenched they are next to impossible to unseat.
I was represented in Austin by Jim Murphy, then when 0bama was elected he lost to a Democrat, then he won his seat back in 2010, & now he’s running for re-election. Shortly after he took office I emailed him to ask why he supported Strauss as Speaker & I didn’t care much for his excuses, so this time around I’m voting for Ann Witt instead. I’ll give her the same chance if she wins - do what you promised or my vote will be up for grabs in 2 years.
Houston radio guy Joe Paggs was railing the day after Lugar won that we shouldn’t oppose any incumbant GOPers until we get rid of all the incumbant Dems. That may sound like a logical strategy, but does not take into account we are supposed to be the pro-freedom party, so if someone thinks they can do a good job they should be free to run, even if (especially if!) the incumbant has been there for decades. What are the good potential candidates supposed to do, wait another 30 years until the incumbant drops dead on the House floor? Move to another district & be subject to accusations of carpet-bagging? I think not.
(I voted for Cruz yesterday.)
I can't see that where the candidates went to school is relevant. Doesn't look like any of the top three went to UT, lol. Dewhurst went to Arizona, Leppert went to Harvard.
I think we have a pretty strong slate of candidates for the Senate. Although I plan on voting for Cruz, I don't dislike Leppert or Dewhurst and wouldn't jump off a cliff if either won.
I clicked on this thread (and another yesterday) to see what I hoped would be a debate on the positives as well as the negatives.
You seem to be a Dewhurst supporter. Could you tell me why he is the most conservative? Not in generalities, but specifically. I am being sincere.

I’ll vote for Cruz but in the back of my mind I’ll be thinking about the last jurist with solid conservative credentials we sent to Washington. Cornyn wasn’t it?
We also received the robo-call yesterday from Gov. Palin at our home phone. Our votes will go to Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate.

Me too I voted Cruz. Not so thrilled that he’s a lawyer. Main test is if he backs up his conservative speech with verifying voting record in the Senate should he be elected.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.

Lt. Governor is what the holder of the office makes of it and Dewhurst has been totally conservative in every way on fiscal issues and social issues ever since he he left the private sector at age 53 to serve in public office.
If there is a “its his turn” guy in the race, its private-school-educated Harvard Lawyer-with-the-Goldman-Sachs- connection Cruz who thinks he is entitled to be a U.S. Senator for his very first elective office.
My preference in someones education is that all other things being equal, highest quality of higher education is a better choice in leadsership and the understanding of and resolution capacity for complex situations. Hands down, Harvard is hard to argue against as “best in USA and maybe a top tie globally.

Sorry you don’t have a Senator Dewhurst “compadre” here. Do not see much Dewhurst enthusiasm, at least not in East Texas.
Despite all the spin from Dewhurts people, its looking like its Cruz’s to lose.
Depending on who else would throw their hat in the ring, Dewhurt would not be ojectionable moving up one notch when Rick moves on.

Cruz is far more GOP-e than Dewhurst. You probably thought it was the other way around because you did not know Cruz has the Bush endorsement.
As you say, Harvard is a “top tie globally” for the US, but the way is it supposed to work, we would like a Senator with top ties to Texas rather than a “top tie globally”.
It is true that there are activists posting articles in favor of Cruz here on this forum. That is only natural because Cruz has claimed the mantle of the tea-party and accepted the endorsement of Sarah Palin. The vast majority of actual working, involved, busy, Texans familiar with the Lt. Governor’s work and leadership and the results of his legislation passed on the fiscal issues and life issue don’t bother posting to this forum.
I don’t mind being the one person who is setting the record straight in response to the Cruz attack ads accusing Dewhurst of not being a conservative.
As far as spin goes, it takes a lot of spin from the Cruz people to portray Dewhurst as not being conservative, because Dewhurst has an actual record of conservative accomplishment and a military, private sector, and legislative record life of accomplishment to show while Cruz has only campaign promises and his career as a government lawyer and an employee of an international law firm.
You really have no idea what Dewhurst would do in the future, but Dewhurst would make a great Governor if we could get him. I think Texas needs him even more representing the State of Texas in the U.S. Senate.
