I was in your position a couple of months ago. I had the inkling to get an AR15 and got the open to buy from the minister of finance so I started educating myself.

If you want to learn, check out the forums at m4carbine.net and ar15.com. What you'll find is that for complete guns, you can't go wrong with a Colt. It's the standard. There are many other brands with excellent reviews, such as BCM, Noveske, Daniel Defense, and others with spotty reps, like Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, and others. I ended up getting a Daniel Defense M4 v7 and I love it.

I might think twice about building your first rifle. While it is a great way to learn how everything works and fits together, buying a complete rifle from a reputable manufacturer means you get one that works out of the box and in my case, one with a lifetime warranty.

I hadn’t been there before either. It was kind of a whim. We had a good time, and even ate at Paula Deen’s place.

The one near me did a month ago. The counter guy said it was something they stocked.

I've been out of state helping with my mom for the last couple of weeks or so and haven't been back to see.

When I get back home I'm going to go re-drool on a Sig P226 and the AR and see if I have to have either...or maybe both!

The money will hurt, but, hey...I've never let that stop me before with guns and guitars...and sometimes small block chevys.

When I told them I was about to repossess the plane, the guards started getting itchy.

The place is oozing history. This is the centennial year for Girl Scouts. There were displays everywhere.

My ears are still ringing from firing a S&W 357 mag this afternoon... Fired one round, then got ear protection.

I’m pretty sure we’ve all done that. Hopefully just once though.

LOL

Thanks. Good advice. The forums are helpful and it's hard to beat FR. Lots of experience around here.

I just about have talked myself into one and I got a few gun magazine "buyer's guide" issues to get a feel for the market.

The number of companies making an AR15 was a surprise, not to mention how many different models there are.

This isn't as easy as I thought it would be.

“I love my old 1022, especially for all the things you can do and buy to make it whatever you want it to be and an AR seems to take that aspect to another level.”

My 10/22 stainless with laminated stock is just the way I want to keep it, though have thought about doing the AR conversion...when I find another 10/22 that I like but would like better modified, I will do it.

Btw, Ruger BX-25 clips are great...forget all the others outthere...never had a jam or misfire with the BX-25, have had many with other mags.

One thing you should also know is there is an additional 11% Federal Excise Tax charged on the sale of a complete rifle.

That is why I just buy separate uppers and lowers.

I don’t see any reason to feed the beast out of my wallet.

“Holy Crap! I am amazed they let you shoot that indoors”

Ha, I shoot all my guns in my front yard, right outside my kitchen window. Neighbors (not that close but they hear the ‘reports’ do not complain. And I have a high bank as a backstop that is still on my property. And the muzzle loader club a quarter mile away help too...even had a deputy sheriff stop by and use my ‘range’ with me... :)

I put a Butler Creek folding stock on mine, with their Hot Lips magazine and a sling years ago and liked so much like that I've never changed it back. It needs a better scope, though.

I've been curious about Ruger's BX-25 clip. The old Hot lips is getting a bit tired.

“They even had my very own personal P51 in the gallery.”

More years ago than I can count, a cousin of mine who flew in the Navy, had his own P51 at the airport in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I flew with him, but not in the P51...it was my first flight, a small 2 seater over Council Bluffs/Omaha.

He said the P51 didn’t spend much time in the air...too much for fuel. And that was when fuel was ‘cheap’...

Eleven percent?!? Yikes! I did not know that.

They get more than enough out of me already.

Last fall I bought left over pumpkins from a neighbor to use as targets...they explode nice (when I hit ‘em)...he said he hears me when I am out there shooting, and he is not a ‘close’ neighbor.

Having 5 1/2 acres and being 700 feet off the road helps too.

I didn’t know that either until my FFl guy told me that about a year ago.

Thanks for posting the pictures!

I drive by the museum many times a year these days, but have only stopped outside to let the dogs out for a bit before getting back on the road.

Your picture tells me that I need to take some time when it cools down and I can leave the dogs in the truck for a while.

Hmmm...Stearman, P-51 and an Me-109...is that the tail of a B-17? They look like the real deal...are they real or models?
