Religion once again stands on the front lines of liberty.
LifeNews reports on a powerful new legal challenge to ObamaCare, launched by groups that have been given ample reason to take up arms against it:
Notre Dame, Franciscan University of Steubenville, and dozens of Catholic hospitals and organizations have filed a total of 12 lawsuits today against Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the Obama administration over the controversial HHS mandate. The lawsuit challenges the Obama administrations unprecedented mandate that attacks the freedom to practice religion without government interference. Under the HHS mandate, employers must provide insurance coverage that includes abortion-inducing drugs, as well as contraceptives and sterilization procedures.
Franciscan University maintains that the requirement to fund and facilitate such activities violates its core religious and moral convictions as a Catholic university.
Franciscan Universitys mission is and always has been to teach from the heart of the Church, said University President Father Terence Henry, TOR. Go Irish!
It is a shame that so many hospitals have dropped the "Saint" in front of their names.
These institutions were founded by the church, and the government has no business dictating to them.
Question for our legal minds at FR—— If the SCOTUS overturns or strikes down provisions in ObamaCare would these Catholic lawsuits still have legal merit to proceed?
Notre Dame? The same Notre Dame that let the Obamunist come to their school to talk and even covered up religious symbols for his talk? Glad to see they are coming to their senses somewhat.
Where did that happen?
I'm not a lawyer, but if they kill the whole thing, then I believe it becomes moot. If they just kill the individual mandate, then there goes the financing of it. I don't know what happens to the rest.
IIRC, that was Georgetown, another Jesuit operation.
Unfortunately, way too many church leaders supported this evil monstrosity before the contraception regulations and still would be supporting it if Obama didn't give in to the birth control and abortion lobby in drafting regulations for it. They still think they can have Socialism on their terms.
Certainly.
Some points may be mooted but the suit can certainly be ruled upon in trial or, just as likely, summary judgement.
That just never made sense to me. BUT, it is good to see that they are taking action.
