Poll: Obama, Romney In Dead Heat [America Divided: Despite Poor Economy, 1/2 Want Obama Re-Elected!]

Poll: Obama, Romney In Dead Heat

By Jon Cohen and Dan Balz, Monday, May 21

After months of aggressive campaigning on jobs and the economy, President Obama and Mitt Romney, his likely Republican challenger, are locked in a dead heat over who could fix the problem foremost on voters’ minds, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The parity on economic issues foreshadows what probably will continue to be a tough and negative campaign. Overall, voters would be split 49 percent for Obama and 46 percent for Romney if the November election were held now. On handling the economy, they are tied at 47 percent.

Despite flare-ups over issues including contraception and same-sex marriage, more than half of all Americans cite the economy as the one concern that will decide their vote in the fall, relegating others — such as health care, taxes and the federal deficit — to single-digit status.

More than eight in 10 Americans still rate the national economy negatively, but there are strains of optimism as it continues to recover from the collapse of 2008. A majority of Americans — 54 percent — say they are more hopeful than anxious about the situation over the next few years, while 58 percent are bullish about their financial prospects.

There you go. “adults” isn’t even registered voters, let alone “likely voters”.

“Another skewed poll: Rats 32%, Republicans 22%, Ind 38%.”
Thank you for digging this out. When a “poll” like this comes out from the Washington Post or another Democrat cheerleading group, the bast way to get the truth is to scroll down until you find someone posted the breakdown. Of course there will be 60 or more “We're doomed I tell ya; we're all doomed!” posts first but eventually some cool head will come to the rescue.
The verdict is this “poll” is not a poll but a wishful thinking Op Ed. As to Rasmussen's poll, he has Obama gaining 10 points during the worst week of the campaign so far - those for want to believe he will win because we have a bad candidate (and we do) have to explain that.
Rasmussen put his thumb on the scale to make a race out of a landslide. If he says it is a landslide to soon he loses readers and money.

Washington Post-ABC News Poll

This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone May 17 to 20, 2012, among a random national sample of 1,004 adults, including landline and cell phone-only respondents. The results from the full survey have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by Abt-SRBI of New York.

Bullshit.

Can you explain why conservatives didn’t select someone else in the primaries?

Because conservatives eat their young and leave their wounded comrades behind on the battlefield, that's why...

“I can’t vote for anyone Republican or Democrat, who:

1. Implemented Gay Marriage
2. Supported Abortion
3. Nominated 27 out of 36 extreme left-wing Progressive Liberal judges
4. Implemented an “Assualt” Weapons ban.
5. Implemented Socialized Medicine with a $50 Abortion
6. Raised taxes/fees by $700 million.
7. Implemented a Carbon Cap and Trade system
8. Supported Amnesty for Illegals via McCain-Kennedy.
9. Supported the Brady Bill
10. Supported and forced Gay Adoption
11. Supported Global Warming.”

Too bad that won’t fit in a tag line.

So you think Romney will lose the South? Then you have a scoop.

As for all the crying in your beer, it’s called politics. I supported every “more conservative” frontrunner, but they lost and for various reasons.

Maybe the 5% “third party” vote someone else sited here will put Obama back in office. Real smart.

Your list is in the past tense for a reason.

Romney has run to the right of the republican field for the past two presidential election cycles. But you’ll elect Obama over that.

And you will never elect a conservative again because you are going to live in a country with a solid left wing Supreme Court, illegal aliens are going to be given citizenship and the vote, etc. Romney opposes illegal immigration and amnesty but that’s ok, elect Obama.

You will stay home and you will wake up in the country you lost and you deserve it. However, I don’t.

Since the pollsters are well aware of the bias dependent upon the sample it is great to see that they have to stoop to such tricks to give the Left a little hope. What are they going to do when even “adults” shows The Disaster down by ten points? Poll Martians?

I agree. I meant we need to hope liberals stay home on election day.

Mitt can win with out me. Other than not being Obama he has not done anything to earn my vote.

Had Palin declared she would now be the candidate no matter what the mythical establishment wanted or wants. My suspicion is that she did not declare because of her concern over the attacks it would have unleashed on her family by the Left.

I can’t blame her for not subjecting those she loved to such an onslaught. Most politicians are too ambitious and selfish to show such care.

A GOP takeover of Congress will check most, if not all, of Mitt’s bad ideas. He will not be a dictator (unlike The Disaster).

Let’s face it there is NO candidate with even the slightest chance of winning who would satisfy the Lovers of Losers. If there are more than a handful of Senators or 10% of the House who could meet their “purity” tests I would be shocked.

Any other candidate would be called the same stupid names and claimed to be twins of The Disaster. But the good thing is that none of that matters since we are dealing with tiny minorities who feel that way.

How amusing that you must quote a man whom most of your fellow travelers believe to be the essence of the Big Government proponents. A man that the vast majority of the far Right believe to be evil to his core. Needless to say, Hamilton was one of the greatest men this nation ever had and the greatest political philosopher the Western hemisphere ever produced so it is good to see him quoted even if the quote is not used as he intended. He would definitely oppose The Disaster at every chance.

I presume it is a quotation coming from the election of 1800 and explains his opposition to Aaron Burr rather than Jefferson, his mortal enemy. You will note that he did NOT refuse to make a choice knowing full well how much of a crook Burr was. Even the fact that Jefferson was only slightly less of one than Burr did not cause Hamilton to take your route.

But he knew that Burr was a potential Cataline and refused to concede the Federalist vote for him in spite of his wooing of them. Jefferson he considered far less dangerous because he was “a temporizing man” who could be worked with.

It was his political opposition to Burr which cost him his life, a life totally devoted to the creation and preservation of the Union.

Your idea is really silly. You would have as much chance resurrecting and reanimating Ronald Reagan as with this delusional diversion.

And if you say it was “Romneys dirty tricks” then I hope he uses every single one of them on Obama.

I say that was part of it. I’ll also say the conservitive vote was slip between to many people allowing Romney to win states with 35%-40% of the vote.

Romney will not use any of his dirty tricks on Obama. For one, he will be unable to out spend Obama.

Not my list. Did you see the quote marks wrapped around the whole thing? I do agree with it though. I don’t vote for liberals so throw at me all the old lines you can remember, I’ve heard them all and still will never vote for Romney.

Oh I know you won’t vote for Romney, so don’t. Then don’t bother me with “all the old lists”, either. I guess we could all just not talk, but there is a presidential election coming up. Have fun.
