The news is that the Click it or Ticket stepped up enforcement is started on Monday.
Even if you are wearing your seatbelt, that isn't any protection against a ticket.
Police can now stop you for no other reason than they say you weren't wearing it. This is the ultimate revenue generator.
On Twitter, the propaganda is in full swing @NHTSAgov #ClickItorTicket
It’s a ridiculous law and at $250 per violation its obviously not about safety.
I never thought I would see the day where a police officer would enforce such an immoral law.
Agreed! Complete bullsh*t.
It’s a revenue generator that’s it plain and simple. Cops are the new tax collector.
I got one of these tickets on a 20 mph dead end road.
Call a cop for a break in.
They won’t even come out to make a report.
I remember back in 2002, one of my coworkers, a hardcore libertarian, got one of those notices (not a ticket but it was when our law was new then) at a checkpoint and complained (rightly so) on hoe we are becoming a police state.
Or hit and runs either.
No money to be made on B&E’s and hit and runs.
I’m SOOOOOOOOO glad my tax dollar$ pay for such service!!!
WHAT?!?!
I got one when three witnesses in the car, the judge said that she had to take the word of the cop no matter how many witnesses I presented.
The only thing I could do is give a reason the police man might be wrong. I wasn’t allowed to say he was a liar, but everyone who was in the car with me knew the truth.
great - guess I’ll be seeing a bunch of these in my court next month...
A friend of mine was burglarized.
They stole his guns and stole some of his wife’s dainties.
Creepy stuff.
They called the Po Po and they told them to call their insurance company.
I bet if we passed an initiative in every state that said all ticket revenue has to go to pay for people who walk on their emergency room bills, there would be zero enforcement of these laws.
I reckon you will.
Preposterous!
Sound like legal B.S. but who ever pushes a traffic ticket to appellate court?
I got one that will be hard to top..
I got one in the parking lot of a private establishment, my car was running, in it’s parking spot in park.
Judge didn’t care. just asked “where you in the car with out your seat belt on?” well ya... “pay the fine” But but but “you broke the law! pay the fine!”
then and there I knew it had NOTHING to do with safety of ANYONE. It had everything to do with collecting $ for the county/city/state.
That’s just stunning...especially since guns were involved.
That’s a wonderful idea...and there’s no way in Hell it would ever pass and you know why.
True story.
Wow..........
Isn’t every passenger who sits in a car “there without his/her seat belt on” at least for a moment?
Sounds like legal B.S. which goes unaddressed as nobody takes a ticket to appellate court (the place where legal errors by the initial court can be redressed) which usually costs more than the ticket would. So these petty Napoleons never get their wrists slapped. Unless maybe it’s worth it because that ticket makes the difference between keeping or losing a driver’s license.
Tell it to the people in the car with me that went to traffic court that day.
I think you are being emphatically agreed with.
What stuns me is that cops would be so callous as to give such a high fine to people for such a minor infraction when people are hurting financially.
My Grandfather was a cop and when he knew someones family was hurting, he went light on them.
No one is saying what state(s) this is?
For me it’s Texas. $250 a pop.
No, they specifically made it so that your insurance company can’t use these tickets to determine your insurance rates or anything else.
They made sure you would have zero motivation to fight these tickets, they just want your money. Plain and Simple.
And cops wonder why people hate them.
And somehow it’s a tragedy when they get hurt or killed on the job. Maybe if they were acting like human beings instead of totalitarian assholes, people might trust them again.
If it helps, I know they’re running this campaign in Texas
As many of us learned some time back, the police are NOT your friend. Remember most are union civil servents and know where their bread is buttered.
Nutsa NHTSA being a national group, it might be some Feeberally coordinated thang.
There were some radio ads a few years ago where “safety groups” practically bragged about nationwide seatbelt laws as primary violations, and those got quickly pulled when it looked like opposition was quickly amassing. No sense in losing the 50-state legal tyranny, after all.
The feds have tried to standardize the fines. I think it is 250+ dollars in every state.
Take the farking seatbelts and shove them where the sun don't shine!
You want to be safe in a car? GET RID OF THE FREAKING DIAGONAL BELTS! Replace them with an "H" harness and anti-submarine belt. And even though you are in a car WEAR A FREAKING HELMET!
It's not about SAFETY it's about CONTROL!
Modern PDs are often places where bullies hang out. Not 100% of the time; some are more sensible than others. But the days of Andy Griffith integrity and keeping a short leash on Barney Fifes are long, long gone.
I tell you, everyone that went into the traffic court that day loved cops, everyone left thinking that they are liar bastards that will do anything to appease their overlords.
That’s a chunk of change for a minor infraction.
That has nothing to do with points and drivers licenses
I wasnt allowed to say he was a liar, but everyone who was in the car with me knew the truth.
HUH?
You are not allowed to speak the truth in a court of law?
If the cop was lying I am going to testify that he lied. Screw them.
Eventually one must open their eyes to the truth.
Some stupid technicality which maybe a lawyer could have gotten around, come to think of it. “He’s incorrect, he must be thinking about some other traffic stop.” Something which doesn’t quite challenge these bullies face on.
And that is why I love Nevada. Every year the Nannies try to pass a primary seat belt law and EVERY year it gets shot down.
Sure, they run the propaganda here, but they cant do unannounced checkpoints and they CANT pull you over for just your seatbelt :)
Do you like spending 10 days in jail for contempt? A wise man picks his fights more carefully.

4th Amendment? We don't need no stinking 4th Amendment!
Yet somehow these legal bullies must be halted. There sooner or later are going to be citizen organizations that will wait for such unjust things to happen and then jump on them with all fours.
Then they say it is defamation, The judge says no name calling or I would be in contempt.
wow, I might just move!
Anywhere else I can be done with these nannies?
There are probably polite phraseologies to get around most of this B.S. Like “believe that XXX is carrying on in an YYY manner.” Or generalities like “ZZZ is wrong.” Usually it makes sense to try to be polite before little Napoleons; they might be appeased. But pure legal B.S. needs to get challenged. If you could not argue that the officer purposedly engaged in untruth if you had reason to support that, then this ought to be matter for an appellate court and surely there ought to be citizens organizations for this purpose if there is any sense of honor left in the land.
