Jeffrey E. Neely, the embattled General Services Administration regional commissioner who planned a lavish employee conference in Las Vegas that cost more than $800,000, left the agency Thursday, a GSA spokesman said.

Neely, the public buildings commissioner for the Pacific Rim region, had been on administrative leave since early April after an inspector general inquiry found rampant waste and abuse associated with the 2010 event. At the time of the conference, Neely was acting regional commissioner.

News of the overspending led to the resignation of GSA Administrator Martha Johnson and the firing of her two top lieutenants. Nine other employees were placed on administrative leave.

Why isn't he in jail?

(Oh, never mind. The same reason Corzine isn't in jail. He must be a Democrat.)

Is this another difference between government workers and private industry ? That they can resign and not be pursued for misappropriation of funds ?

Compare this guy to Dennis Kozlowski who was CEO of Tyco and was convicted for spending company money on artwork for his office and a birthday bash for his wife.

Kowzloski is serving 25 years for misusing shareholders’ money but this GSA cretin gets to quietly disappear after misusing taxpayers money ??

Jeffrey E. Neely...left the agency...

IOW...he quit/retired and will go off into the sunset with a full pension and bennies....

He should have been fired on the spot...this is a prime reason government workers shouldn't be unionized.

I’m married to a teacher. He (and many others) have just gone on ‘staff development training’....courtesy of the tax payer. It was $1000. Plane fare and cost of room and food.

His friend made a trip of it visiting his buddies in a nearby city.......not going to the seminars where sign-in was NOT required.

Just one, big vacation.

“After some delay, Mr. Neely is rightfully no longer on the taxpayers’ tab,” said Rep. John L. Mica (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Unless he lost his cushy pension, he is still on the taxpayers' tab.

That they can resign and not be pursued for misappropriation of funds ?

In this case it is only the taxpayers money and therefore is considered just an error in judgment.
