The Feds have been forced to release their social network monitoring manual, which contains the list of words the government watches on social media and news sites.

Homeland Security Manual Lists Government Key Words For Monitoring Social Media, News
Ever complain on Facebook that you were feeling sick? Told your friends to watch a certain TV show? Left a comment on a media website about government pork?
If you did any of those things, or tweeted about your recent vacation in Mexico or a shopping trip to Target, the Department of Homeland Security may have noticed.

These terms and others are “broad, vague and ambiguous” and include “vast amounts of First Amendment protected speech that is entirely unrelated to the Department of Homeland Security mission to protect the public against terrorism and disasters,” stated the Electronic Privacy Information Center in letter to the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence.
The manual was released by the center a week after Homeland Security officials were grilled at a House hearing over other documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit that revealed analysts were scrutinizing online comments that “reflect adversely” on the federal government. Mary Ellen Callahan, the chief privacy officer for the Department of Homeland Security, and Richard Chavez, director for the National Operations Center, testified that the released documents were outdated and that social media was monitored strictly to provide situational awareness and not to police disparaging opinions about the federal government. On Friday, Homeland Security officials stuck by that testimony.

Hmm, so posting “Drill Baby Drill” got me some looks by homeland security? I’d rather it got a look by the Energy Dept and DEP.

Don’t see any Arab-sounding words on that list.
They do have a special section on the southern US border - wonder which side they’re watching?

I went to the site and read through the lists. What a ridiculous list. From the words and phrases on that I believe that literally every person I know who uses email, Facebook, and/or text messages probably generates at least one if not dozens of "hits" a day on that list. Sheesh, my kids play a lot of FPS games and talk about their "shots fired" stats. Oops, guess their on the list. My wife likes to shop at Target. Dang, she's up for review now. etc. etc.
Years ago, before "domestic surveillance" (oops, am I on the list now?) was even in vogue I had a friend who was concerned about it. Borderline tin-foil hat type, but with a twisted sense of humor. He set his tagline/signature for *all* of his emails to be something like "For my friends at NSA: nuclear Soviet Union submarine ..." Wonder whatever happened to Dave, he disappear a few years later...

Contest....who can be the first to use all these words in one sentence?
And the sentence can’t contain a list....that’s too easy.
To: Dr. Ursus
Maybe if we all visited a Target in Mexico that sells pork products we wouldn’t be sick from our own tainted food supply. But it’s an exercise in futility to question the people we have in power right now. Vote the bums out in the next election.
I’ve accepted that I am on several lists already and have been for some time. So be it!

George Orwell’s 1984 Big Brother is showing up on the horizon. Keep on re-electing the same goons and it will happen sooner than later. We have “One” in power right now who along with his “Kameraden” would just as well substitute the constitution for toilet paper. Just a thought to consider.......

I was also wondering if they took notice the other day when I called President Obama a SON-OF-A-BITCH upon the disclosure of the Hollywood types being allowed access to TOP SECRET military facilities so they could make a really cool movie and probly not directly related at how the SEAL team that took out Bin Laden was conveniently wiped out.

Everybody has used one or more of those words in their communications. This list will do nothing to narrow down potential threats, but it DOES give the feds permission to spy on everybody. They know who they want to spy on, and it has little to do with homeland security.

They couldn’t possibly have time to monitor all those words even if they didn’t take smoke breaks.
This is just baseless hysteria.
I only have 60 or so friends on facebook and I see similar words used every day.
Perhaps if they have some other reason to have a person under surveillance, they might check his/her posts for certain words, but this is just silly.

The words on the list also have to appear in context with other suspicious words to get flagged.
i.e. A phrase that contains “shopping” and “Target”
would not be flagged. The word “shopping” and the fact that Target is capitalized would mark the phrase as innocuous.

Gee, I guess I'm safe here using such deragotory terms such as "Dear Leader," the "FASCIST Neo-Commie," " Islamic-Jihadist-Appeaser/Defender" etc, as well as Demo-Rats, the "Party of Surrender and Defeat," not too mention, referring to the head of the Dept of Homeland [IN]Security as that "Clueless, Fat Beatch?"
Guess I can stop watching for the black helicopters (or have they been replaced with drones yet?) and can sleep safely knowing the Gestapo-like, Jack-Booted Thugs will not be kicking my door in. lol
To: Daffynition
It sounds like the government is going to target poor people from Mexico that eat a lot of pork, possibly by giving their computer a virus so they can’t shop online for medicine in Canada for common ailments like colds and flu, which could drive up prices to epic proportions and make flu shots more expensive, there by endangering population of the United States, Russia, and China.
