SAN DIEGO Just months away from being released from federal prison, former Congressman Randy Duke Cunningham of Rancho Santa Fe wrote to a federal judge earlier this month asking help to get his rights to carry a gun restored.
But the plea, made in a rambling and sometimes disconsolate letter sent to Judge Larry A. Burns on May 2, was for naught. Burns, who sentenced Cunningham to eight years and four months in prison in 2006, replied he had no power to help him.
The correspondence is the latest missive from the Tucson, Ariz., federal prison where Cunningham has been serving his sentence. The former Republican congressman pleaded guilty to conspiracy and tax evasion and admitted to receiving gifts, cash and fancy trips from defense contractors in exchange for steering government work their way.
Since his imprisonment he has denied taking bribes and said he regretted his plea. In the letter he said he is scheduled to be released to a halfway house in December.
But as a felon, Cunningham is prohibited from legally carrying a gun.

Damn shame what happened to Cunningham, but he should’ve known better. Only Democrats get away with that sort of criminal behavior.
Yes it is a shame. Vietnam vet, Top Gun instructor and ardent conservative. He chose his own fate. I just wish libs who do similar things were treated equally. Speaking of which, when does Maxine Waters’ trial start?
I dunno, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
“Speaking of which, when does Maxine Waters trial start?”
This is a serious post and a you shouldn’t be joking in it.
Maxine Waters is not a Republican there is no plan to ever bring her ethics violations before the Committee, she has THE immunity.
A great war hero who threw away his reputation for manna.
LOL.
Duke should get a gun and visit Maxine. It could be fruitful.
He had it made in the shade and threw it all away.A damn shame.

I have a similar 'problem'. Now that my wife and I are separated, I'm just going it on my own. Screw 'em, I don't care anymore.
An excellent question. Only after the libtard lamestream media stops crying "RACISM!" at every constructive criticism or legitimate allegation of wrongdoing against "someone of color" in this country, OR when those who truly seek justice in Justice's name get sick and tired of that label and finally start ignoring it.
This "blacking" of America by putting everyone and everything else down is truly making me sick to my stomach.
I’d ask this post to be removed. The intert00bs are NOT anonymous.
While on the Senate Armed Services Committee, didn’t Dianne Feinstein funnel defense contracts to companies partially owned by her husband?
Oh, I forgot....she’s a “good” lib and therefore immune from prosecution.
One might question why the government thinks it is ok to selectively destroy a person’s constitutional rights after they’ve served their sentence. Effectively, this amounts to a 2nd amendment violation pinned forever to every ex-con. Why stop with dismissing the 2nd amendment. Perhaps next the government will dismiss the 1st and 4th amendment of ex-cons.
I see this as yet another thinly veiled attempt by the government to disarm citizens. Label more are more people criminals and the government gets to disarm them for life.
In all states? I'm sure it's true in California and some other states, but that seems a little harsh for someone like Cunningham, who wasn't convicted of a violent crime. Maybe after serving some probationary period, couldn't he move to some state where they aren't such wusses and a man could get his rights back after doing his time? Just asking.

ie. a Rat!
He should adopt the G. Gordon Liddy method of gun access for convicted felons: “I am not permitted to own any guns myself, but Mrs. Liddy keeps quite an arsenal on her side of the bed.”
from what I’ve herd, Mrs. Liddy has guns all over the house.
I wager Mrs.Cunningham will do the same as well have them in her car and purse.
