DEL PASO (CBS13) Its a plot straight out of the movies, but it happened in real-life to store clerks in Del Paso Heights.
The owner at the Four Oakes Market says the store has been robbed three times before, and this time he decided to fight back, and it was all caught on tape.
It is terrifying to even watch. Two masked gunmen barged into the market, and immediately, one grabbed a clerk and put a gun to his head.
I saw the guy, I saw the gun, the hoodie, everything, said Mangal Singh.
Mangal was behind the counter at the time while Kulbier Singh was the one with the barrel at his temple.
The guy coming inside, bring the gun, try to rob, said Mangal.
What happened next was nothing short of an action movie scene as a customer dropped to the ground. Kulbier was dragged down an aisle with the gun at his head.
At the exact same time, Mangal grabbed his revolver and the robber, still at the door, knew he made a mistake.
I saw the gun, the hoodie, he looked up I shot him, said Mangal.
With the suspect trying to get the courage to face an armed Mangal, the shop owner opened fire, shattering his own window door and it was enough to scare the robber away.
The danger wasnt over; cameras caught Kulbier simultaneously fighting for his life. Despite not speaking English, he let his fists do the talking by taking the gunman on in a struggle that would, incredibly, leave Kulbier with the robbers firearm, which ended up being a pellet gun.
Nineteen-year-old Jermain Walker was done for and a stick was enough to keep him subdued.
Eventually police arrived, responding to Mangals panic button, and incredibly were handed the unarmed robber.
Everybody was trying to protect their own home and right now this is home, said PERSON.
Customers are impressed by their shopkeepers bravery.
Two gunmen looking for some easy cash met with shopkeepers that made crime anything but easy.
Police say they are happy no one was hurt and are continuing their search for the second suspect.
Not likely. He probably learned about his right to steal in Black Studies class.
Don't hold your breath. The punk will just improve his technique and become more vicious until someone puts a couple of shots in his x ring.
No, they were handed the DISARMED robber. There is a big difference.
the shop owners saw the gun and the hoodie????
I thought we’re not supposed to do “profiling” against people in hoodies? Didn’t the liberals lecture us about that subject???
Clearly these guys need to be sued for infringing on poor Jermain’s civil rights.
I’m sure that the 2 sub-humans were wearing their hoodies in support of Trayvon Martin. Just sorry that the owner didn’t kill both of them. He needs more range time. Unfortunately, now the sub-humans will go into our totally pathetic criminal injustice system at taxpayer expense where the sub-humans have undoubtedly been before. The taxpayers will now have to pay for the sleazy morally challenged criminal defense attorneys, and we will be subjected to a liberal nit-wit judge who will sentence the sub-humans to 1/10th the time they should have received, there will be endless frivolous motions and appeals, and then early release granted by some nit-wit parole board. The sub-humans will get out, terrorize and maim some innocents and then, the process will start all over again.
Bump.
The journo decided to use the word, “unarmed” because the robber suddenly became the victim and could have become another Tray-tray.
I credit the writer for learning English as a second language.
but will make life miserable and expensive for the shopkeeper anyway.
Perhaps Jermain will learn a lesson and stop stealing.
All poor Jermain wanted was some skittles.
Del Paso Heights is one tough hood... Even the inner city thugs of Sacramento stay out of there!
Vigilance Committees worked in Northern California years ago.
UNLESS they tore the arms off of the robber and handed him over to the police.
I went ice skating at that old small ice arena in Del Paso Heights once, but I did not like the way the area looked, so I never went back. At the time, I did not know about the reputation of the area. 10 of us left at one time, all of us carrying our hockey sticks. I have never been back there.
No, they were handed the DISARMED robber. There is a big difference.
Good catch.
