It may have been fate but I settled in rural Alaska. No bug out in plan, too remote and very defensible plus food is very much available from fish to mosse almost year round.
But I do have to date 24 number 10 cans of Augason Farms freeze dried emergency foods. And bottled water all stashed in a travel trailer capable of being off the grid.
I pity those that have to plan about evading the city mobs, checkpoints and general urban suffrage.

Sorry, a typo, I meant moose. For the last 10 years I have been too busy working to take time off for fishing, I mean King salmon fishing, we have a very good spot just 20 miles north of me, average fish is over 15 pounds with a lot getting over 30. I use 100lb Spectra line, a light surf rod and 120lb steel leaders.
But this year my job is a whole lot less demanding, I actually may have time to take my son fishing for the Kings.
Is there a limit on the salmon or can you just take what you need?
For me yes a limit cause I’m a white boy. But my grandaughter is half native and technically she can fish for subsistence.
I have not fished in years but there is a limit per person per day set by Fish and Game. From what I am hearing this years salmon run may be quite good, in years past its been heavily restricted or even closed.
Mostly though I think I can can legally fish a dozen per day, but where I fish its almost shoulder to shoulder combat fishing, no bait allowed, no roe. Funny thing is sometime a sparay of WD40 will attract a fish, go figure.
My largest was a 35 pounder King, I don’t play fair and I use expensive Spectra line, I’ll just horse the fish in.
Unless you're talking more than one, then it's meese!
Good listen. Basically don't put all your eggs in the same basket and know when you're first being attacked before it escalates.
I live a small town. 5 miles away and you are in the forests of KY. Friend has a nice piece of property that is geographically perfect for a firing range. I use it at least twice a week for practice. Usually the 22 Marlin 795 because of ammo cost. But as you Appleseed folks know, that works for all your long guns. I love my AR15, but ammo costs mean I have to be somewhat frugal with it.
My opinion? If you own only one long gun for protection, make it a shotgun.
The first 3 things you do if you live in an urban area and the SHTF?
1- get out of the city
2- get out of the city
3- get out of the city
WD40 is processed fish oil.....

Unless Fukushima does all of us in the Northern Hemisphere in first.
Sorry but that is terrible advise. For some of us, where are we going to go? Is some compassionate country dweller going to take us in?
Plus if SHTF, are the roads even going to be passable? Is sitting in a five mile long traffic jam that never moves better than staying in your home in the city?
Sure I would love to be away from the city if SHTF but for some of us, it is not possible. I’ll stand and fight where I am. I have prepped as best I can and will stay unless it is the last resort.

If there is a ping list for this please put me on it. Thanks...
