AFP reports: "Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this month rejected an offer from United States (US) President Barack Obama for landmark bilateral talks at the White House, the Kremlin revealed on Tuesday."

Less than a week before Mr Putin's May 7 inauguration, he received a missive from Mr Obama touching upon bilateral and international issues and inviting him to discuss them in a bilateral summit on the sidelines of the May 18 to 19 G8 summit, Mr Putin's foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov said.

'Obama sent his letter on May 2,' Mr Ushakov told a briefing.

'He even proposed holding a separate meeting at the White House in Washington outside of the framework of the G8.'

Putin skipped the G8 talks at Camp David earlier this month, sending his trusted protege in his place.

Why negotiate now when Vlad can get far more “flexibility” after the election?

"According to my KGB background check, Mr. Obama appears to be a total fabrication of the U.S. media."

Putin already sees the hand writing on the wall....Obama is toast in November so there’s ne need to meet with him.

Say what you will about Vladmir Putin (and there are many negatives) but there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that he’s Russian first and foremost. It’s impossible to envision him running around the world bowing and apologizing for Russia’s politics and best interests.

The US would be far better served if our President was as strong and resolute about our national interests rather than being only too willing to trade and capitulate.

In my opinion, Putin is losing his Mojo. He should do all he can to prop up Obama through Nov 2012, hoping Obama will be re-elected. After his re-election, then Putin then has 4 more years to play cat and mouse with Obama.

Man is oblivious what’s going on, in reality took strong powers of people to put him there - why?

Obama knew he was going to get turned down. That's why he sent it.

Putin doesn't want to make a deal and then get it shoved by the Repub President.

"Can we trade? Obama for Putin." PhotobucketPhotobucket OK by me. They're both commies, but at least Putin would come in handy if you had to walk through a tough neighborhood.
