I think the more likely scenario is Romney winning the popular vote, but Obama winning the EC.
Yes certain states have passed that rule but it doesn’t go into effect until at least states with 270 EV pass it also. The states that passed this so far are all obama states anyway so it affects nothing.
We have to have an Electoral College. Its their responsibility to verify the winner to be eligible. We don’t want any fraudulent people occupying the White House.
I don’t believe that is true.
In addition there are normally several other items to be voted on on the ballot that have to be counted.
Yep.
The Electoral Vote tally is,under our Constitution, the *only* one that matters.
“There is no reason that couldnt happen again, with President Barack Obama winning a narrow popular vote victory and losing in the Electoral College.”
Frankly, Stuart the Poodle, I don’t care.
If you want to fight it out in the streets, I’ll bring my 1stMarDiv buddies, and you can show up with your bloated, purple SEIU cows, and we’ll see who wins.
I’ll bet a dozen doughnuts that you fat slobs scatter at the first shot in the air. I know that will happen because we confronted you pigs before, and you ran into a building, locked yourselves in and cried your little pig eyes out, begging for the cops to rescue you from the mean Tea Party.
>>> Maybe then, at least, their @#$%^&* voice mail boxes wouldnt always be full.
Still won’t hear your voice. Anybody having a spouse/offspring learns ‘selective hearing’ a long time ago.
>> Anybody having a spouse/offspring learns selective hearing a long time ago.
heh... sad, but true.
I'm sure with the plan to allocate the electoral votes based on who "wins" the popular vote will only be followed if it means a Democrat wins the election, not if it would benefit a Republican. All it does is encourage additional ballot-stuffing in states that are already going to go Democratic, to run up the popular vote total.
>> The 2/3 ratio is for Congress to propose an amendment. It takes 3/4 of the states to ratify an amendment.
Thanks for clarifying. That’s even better!
The scheme of allocating EVs based on the popular vote nationally will never survive its first court test.
The moment a state won by a Republican allocates its EVs to a Democrat who won the popular vote, any Republican voter in the state can file a suit under "the equal protection clause" -- challenging the state's decision as running contrary to the expressed wishes of the majority of its voters.
And they will win. Even in the 9th Circuit...
I agree. And the more representatives, the harder it is to buy them off. When many states have only a few reps, some never see their “Representatives” ever. Couple that with them living in DC, and it’s a pit of corruption. Another Freeper had a website it in their tagline, and I picked it up. The Founders intended for their to be a rep for each 30-60k people. There should be thousands. Oh, and remove their benefits and support staff.
I agree. The funny thing is that so many get upset when Obama compares himself to Lincoln. I don’t. Lincoln (several years after the start of the war), used the black post hoc to justify himself. He was (at least for a large portion of his life) a racist, came from a broken family, had little real life skills, offended everyone, criticized his generals (while knowing nothing about the military, at least until much much later in the war), and on, and on. Obama is so much like Lincoln, it’s not even funny. The one attempt people make is that he “Preserved the Union.” Well, he certainly set a precedent for a tyrannical big government police state. I guess that’s what “Union” means. Imagine Greece exiting the EU, and the EU trying to keep a base in Athens, against the will of Greece. Same difference.
Even better, make them work from home (telecommute) or have small regional offices. Don’t let them get far from the people they’re supposed to serve.
Thank you for that info. But remember, things have a way of snowballing, sometimes bad ideas must be nipped in the bud. If there’s one things the leftists have mastered, it’s boiling the frog.
Indeed, that’s what they said.
“It looks like we will need that sooner than I expected.”
I think that’s the point of the U.N. treaty and China saying that RKBA is a human rights violation (I saw the headline today, not sure when it was said).
>> Even better, make them work from home (telecommute) or have small regional offices. Dont let them get far from the people theyre supposed to serve.
You know, that’s a ***DAMN*** good idea! So simple to implement. We have the technology. It makes perfect sense and it would greatly improve our representative government. (Therefore it’ll never happen. :-( )
Surely you're not thinking of equipping them with one of those restraining ankle bracelet monitors? :)
Sad, yet true.
