Even the rabbis of Poland, who are in the best position to know, are adamant that the ordinary Polish people had virtually nothing to do with Auschwitz horrors. It was a huge festering sore set up by Nazi occupiers, with the Polish army woefully unequal to defending the Nazi military juggernaut, and any Pole who was caught trying to fight it would have ended up there too. A lot of Poles did shelter Jews, at their own risk of going to the camps sometimes.
