Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren acknowledged for the first time late Wednesday night that she told Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania that she was Native American, but she continued to insist that race played no role in her recruitment.

“At some point after I was hired by them, I . . . provided that information to the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard,’’ she said in a statement issued by her campaign. “My Native American heritage is part of who I am, I’m proud of it and I have been open about it.’’

Warren’s statement is her first acknowledgment that she identified herself as Native American to the Ivy League schools. While she has said she identified herself as a minority in a legal directory, she has carefully avoided any suggestion during the last month that she took further actions to promote her purported heritage.

Well, when you think about it, there's a certain logic to her argument. It's Leftist Logic, of course, like the "higher truth" and "higher morality" of the Left, but it goes like this: You can be anything you want to be.

If you were born a man but want to be a woman--Presto!--you're a woman!

If you are highly prejudiced, intolerant, and closed-minded but want to be "liberal"--Presto!--you're "Liberal".

Like Warren, my wife has been told by relatives that she has Cherokee heritage (and her facial features suggest it also).

And, I discovered that with Cherokee (especially in Oklahoma), its somewhat of a toggle switch. Either you can prove it or you can’t.

And, there are lots of resources - web sites with lists taken during internment of the Indians...and a place in Oklahoma that keeps written records. The Cherokee didn’t just magically appear in Oklahoma - they were put there by the federal government; and, there are lots of records to document who these people were. Therefore, anyone with any sense knows that, if you can’t trace yourself to these records, you can’t call yourself Cherokee.

BTW - we can only trace my wife back so far, and there is a ‘missing link’ in the chain, which prevents us from being sure she is part Cherokee...so she doesn’t tell people/government agencies/employers that she is.

What this tells me is that their polling shows that lying about her heritage isn't that big a deal, unless she lied in order to get the job through an affirmative action hire. So she says, yes I told them, but it was AFTER I got hired.
