Chagas, a tropical disease spread by insects, is causing some fresh concern following an editorialpublished earlier this week in a medical journalthat called it "the new AIDS of the Americas."
More than 8 million people have been infected by Chagas, most of them in Latin and Central America. But more than 300,000 live in the United States.
The editorial, published by the Public Library of Science's Neglected Tropical Diseases, said the spread of the disease is reminiscent of the early years of HIV.
"There are a number of striking similarities between people living with Chagas disease and people living with HIV/AIDS," the authors wrote, "particularly for those with HIV/AIDS who contracted the disease in the first two decades of the HIV/AIDS epidemic."

I see no comparison.
Chagas is not viral and can be treated with Benznidazole. More from the Chicken Little school of journalism.
My first thought was “does DDT kill it?”
Another big lie is that AIDs is a disease of poverty. AIDs is a disease of lifestyle mostly either gay or drug abuse.
If someone has had Chagas or has it, they cannot donate blood. Many illegals “sell their blood.” Actually, plasma. Guess tests would reveal its presence prior to donation?
My daughter, an entomolgy masters candidate at UGA, is an original researcher on Chagras disease and insect vectors. She says this whole article is bogus. It is not similiar to AIDS. It is spread by a Triatoma insect defecating on you while you sleep, and does not appear to abe able to spread to northern zones.
The vast, vast majority of AIDS cases are the result of voluntary deviant behavior. This new disease, it appears, is caused by insect bites.
They aren’t the same thing at all.
My microbiology notes agree with her. They also say that there are about 300,000 infected “immigrants” living in the US, but as she pointed out, with no vector it’s self limiting.
We do have that triatoma insect in TX..Possums,and Racoons, IIRC are big vectors for the larval stage of the insects...Something about anal sacs..and other gross things I hope to never read about again..
Since raccoons and possums often live under houses, the insects can find a hospitable environment.
I know we've been warned to never squash one (the chagas bug) with your hands, and also, never scratch a "bite" you may wake up with in the morning, as that allows the triatoma to enter through your skin.
Since it's not something routinely tested for in TX, there is speculation that what some docs treat as heart failure is actually due to Chagas..at least in TX.
I can see how it wouldn't spread to colder climates.
Thanks for the good post. I really wonder these days at the incredible effort to sow fear in the land. Why do the mysterious “they” work so hard to destroy peace?
Northern Virginia had it's first case of indigenous malaria in 60 years, in a young boy, a couple of years ago. Through genetic analysis of the plasmodium, it was thought to trace to African immigrants who managed to pass the immigration physical even though they were malaria carriers. Let's not forget all the drug-resistant TB cases from Russian and Asian immigrants who also passed the test in spite of the ban on active TB cases, and that HIV carriers have been allowed to enter the US since 2010.
PC really is killing us.
This is a topic I don’t know much about personally. But my daughter has done original research and published papers on this very topic. She doesn’t want me to call her out, but she is presently involved in research in this area. This is what she just emailed me from the UGA labs
“It’s a serious problem, but it’s not similar to AIDS. There are a lot of people that have it, especially in Latin and South America. In our country access to care and actually having a doctor figure out what you have + having the money to pay for treatment are the issues.. however you probably won’t acquire the disease in this country (still an issue here with donations to blood banks etc, though they do test for it now).”
New AIDS? Is there a new breed of faggots that we don’t knwo about?
“I guess calling it the “new AIDS” sells papers.”
“the goal is to get research grant money from panicked taxpayers”

We have been getting shat upon by politicians for many years . You would think we would be immune to just about anything, but then those “Researchers” need the grant money for things like new BMW’s, Summer homes, etc. etc.
