One in ten. It's the name of the group that puts on the Reel Affirmations gay and lesbian film festival in Washington, D.C., each year. It's the percent popularized by the Kinsey Report as the size of the gay male population. And it's among the most common figures pointed to in popular culture as an estimate of how many people are gay or lesbian.
What percentage of the population is actually gay or lesbian? A lower one than you might think -- and a much, much, much lower one than most Americans believe.
In surveys conducted in 2002 and 2011, pollsters at Gallup found that members of the American public massively overestimated how many people are gay or lesbian. In 2002, a quarter of those surveyed guessed upwards of a quarter of Americans were gay or lesbian (or "homosexual," the third option given). By 2011, that misperception had only grown, with more than a third of those surveyed now guessing that more than 25 percent of Americans are gay or lesbian.

When I was studying psych the most reliable study was a U of Chicago study which put gay percentage at 3 percent.
I saw Montrose transition during the late 1960s and early 1970s, mixed in with the wild homosexuality was a smattering of Satan worship in that area.
Hippies had Montrose before the homosexuals, but the homosexual money replaced them.
It was quite the party place for awhile.
I’ve done the same thing with people on the ratio of blacks (err, africian-american, err, negro, err, whatever the current accepted title is) in the US. Usually get back 1/4 to 1/3. Sometimes as much as 1/2. Most are shocked to hear 13%.
In my opinion this is being perpetuated by technocratic and bureaucratic elites as a means of population control.

1.75% of males are gay
1.56% of Females are lesbian
The % have been stable for many years.
I suspect Kinsey got 10% because in prison there are straights using homo-sex as a way to seek sexual release or demonstrate domination. Kinsey no doubt phrased the questions to solicit the desired answers, just like some of the "push-polling" practices in our political races.
It follows that far fewer of us than Big Entertainment would have you believe have a gay friend readily available for purposes of decorating help, party preparation, personal grooming and wardrobe advice, and egregiously insulting snap judgements passed off as sage witticisms.

Even if we surveyed EVERY PERSON to prove that only 1% of the population was gay, they’d just come back and say “a lot of them were gay and didn’t know it” or some other BS.
And the Democratic Party advocates for their special rights.
And now we have Obama appointing openly homosexual Judges.and....
I can’t believe the stuff we used to get away with in Houston.
I used to hang my six pack in the ring holders on the outside mirror to keep it cooler during the winter.
We would buy a twelve pack for each vehicle and then tow a car across the city.
During the hard core of the 60s when possession of a single seed was a felony in Texas, I would carry a Johnny Cash 8 track and a pint of Jim Beam on the seat beside me. If pulled over I would put in the CW tape, take a giant swig from the whiskey and hope that the cop would not notice my long hair, and assume that I had merely been drinking all night.
The cops were few and far between, disinterested mostly, but on the other hand they might beat you to death for no good reason, also, they were the law and depending on the circumstances, you could get away with almost anything, or get a serious beat down because of your looks.
In related news, studies show that most homosexuals are not born that way. They just get sucked into it.

Nope. According to the studies cited in the article, 1.8% to 4% of women identify themselves as bisexual and a total of 13% have reported ever having "some form of sexual contact with other women."
