That’s the last thing I remember...

Welll... that one was so abysmal that it became something of a national joke - I think even Biteme made a joke about it. Like Bush looking under the sofa for the WMD.

How accurate is their reporting?

This is something that Gov. Scott Walker recently pointed out us in Wisconsin: The survey design is a random sample of 16,000 nonfarm business establishments, including factories, offices, and stores, as well as federal, state, and local governments in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The establishments are drawn from a universe of over 9.1 million establishments compiled as part of the operations of the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program.

As you can see, they are reporting new jobs from a sample of only a fraction of one percent of all businesses in this country! Really, how accurate can that be?

I don’t really buy the 8.2 number in the first place (I think it’s likely even higher), but I agree that things are looking grim. Double-dip may be on the way, and I don’t mean a campaign stop from Obama and Biden. :-)
