Not buckling up your pet in the car can mean big fines (NJ)

Judging from the alarming number of summonses issued so far for failing to buckle up in the back seat, motorists don’t seem overly concerned about the current Click It or Ticket crackdown. After all, most unrestrained drivers and passengers can afford a measly $46 fine.

But if you drive with an unrestrained pet, don’t expect a slap on the wrist.

Penalties range from $250 to $1,000 and as much as six months in jail.

Gee, I didn't even know there were 'pet restraints' for cars. (Trying to figure out how to break it 'rover'.)

I think these seat belt laws should be repealed. They’re starting to get just plain irritating.

That depends on whether the Slurpee is over or under 16 ounces. The Nanny State is doing just find in the 21st century, isn’t it?

Simply being in NJ can bring big fines. NJ: Come for the fines, stay for the taxes.

I guess this shows the relative value of human versus pet/animals lives to the NJ government, $46 versus $250 to $1000.

I’d really like to see every state outlaw dogs riding in the bed of pickups. My brother-in-law lost a dog yrs ago when he had an accident and his dog was thrown from the truck.
It makes me mad whenever I see it.

Millions of dogs ride in millions of truck beds every day, without a problem. It should be illegal because you know of ONE death?

I don’t know about restraints for pets, but I think its crazy and dangerous to be holding your dog in you lap while driving....its worse than using a cell phone and as bad as texting while driving....how can you really focused on traffic while your pooch is squirming in your lap?

We have a little bed that attaches to the seatbelt, and then a strap that attaches to our dog’s harness. We don’t want anything to happen to our precious little corgi!

Dogs around here ride in the bed of pickups with their heads over the side and their tongues trailing in the breeze. They look like they’re livin’ the dream.

I’ll bet more illegals than dogs ride in the back of pickup trucks every day.
