Perry: We don’t need outsiders’ views on Senate race (Are you listening, Sarah Palin?)
Texas Chronicle ^ | Friday June 1, 2012 | Peggy Fikac

Posted on 06/01/2012 4:06:14 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

Gov. Rick Perry is once again slamming “out-of-state interest groups” backing former solicitor general Ted Cruz in his runoff with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst –this time tweaking Sarah Palin, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint and Rick Santorum by suggesting their states could learn a lot from Texas, but Texas doesn’t need their advice on choosing its next U.S. senator.

Perry, standing staunchly behind Dewhurst, brushed off the question about whether his own tea party credibility may be damaged by his opposition to Cruz, who has been endorsed by national conservative and tea party groups and figures (including Palin, DeMint and Santorum) in the runoff for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate.

[...]

Without naming Palin, DeMint or Santorum, Perry called them to mind by naming their states: “I appreciate everybody paying attention to Texas – as well they should, they could learn some things on how to run South Carolina and Pennsylvania and Alaska.

“Come to Texas and learn how to do it right, but don’t come down here and tell us who needs to be our next United States senator, thank you very much. We’ll decide that without your outside, Washington, D.C.-oriented help,” Perry said.

I really don’t have a problem with Perry supporting Dewhust.
Others here do. Daniels, the Governor of Indiana supported Lugar...and got his teeth kicked in for it.

If we had Mourdocks and Cruz’s running here in Tennessee to oust Alexander and Corker, I would welcome outside conservative group superpacs to counterbalance the DC GOPe’s.

If this is such a big issue for Dewhurst, he should address it himself. Not hid behind Perry dress.

Millions of conservatives across the country have an interest in who Texas sends to the U.S. senate. Just as millions of conservatives across the country have an interest in dumping Corker and Alexander. Give Tennessee a Cruz or Mourdock and we will get the job done.

Fair enough. I just see a lot of reflexive jumping all over Perry because he disagreed with Sarah. I LIKE the woman, always have, but it’s not heresy to differ with her. She endorsed Hatch recently and there was a lot of differing with her then.

I already knew there are a few Perrybots who support Dewhurst...probably because their jackass hero La Raza Rick does.

Not that it meant anything, it didn't. But thanks for your input anyway.

If you think we should all just support the entire tea-party slate of candidates, without regard for who is the most conservative, fine. But just come out and say so.

If you are a Texan, and you value the opinion of Alaska Governor Palin, SC Senator DeMint, and Romney-endorsing ex- Vice-Presidential candidate Santorum over your own judgement, and over the reality that Lt. Gov. Dewhurst is a proven conservative while Cruz is not proven, has no voting record, has never held elective office, etc., but you support him because he’s the tea-party guy, well, ok, but just admit it!

The fact that the Houston Chronicle and the Austin-American Statesman are salivating over the possibility that Lt. Gov. Dewhurst might be upset by Cruz should give you a clue.

The important part of the Chronicle article that is being overlooked in this thread is when Gov. Perry is quoted as saying “There’s a whole lot of people who don’t intimately and expertly know how Texas operates that have come in and endorsed in this race, and with all due respect – I respect each one of those individuals, but they don’t know anything about how Texas works,” said Perry... “And if they did, they would be endorsing David Dewhurst.”

Unfortunately, the tea-party has just mistakenly endorsed the the less conservative person in this race.

What we really need is for Palin,DeMint to come down and actively campaign for Cruz. That'll kill him in a flash.
Ask Sylvestre Reyes

Rick, frankly, after the crap you took on the campaign, I really don’t care how you do it in Texas, because it wasn’t good enough to get anywhere near the nomination. You should shut up and watch how Sarah does it. You might learn something. Just make sure and stay off the painkillers first, you hear?

(By the way, Freepers were ticked off with some of your policy positions long before you got into the campaign. Were you on drugs when you made those decisions, too?)

By the way, does anybody have photo evidence that Rick Perry and Will Ferrell have been together in the same room, and are not the same person (I.e., that Will is not in fact playing Rick as his Dubya character, except stupider)?

When I said “Unfortunately, the tea-party has just mistakenly endorsed the the less conservative person in this race.”

Perhaps I should have been more precise and said “Unfortunately, those who claim to speak for the tea-party and are promoting a slate of candidates claiming the tea-party mantle have just purposely endorsed the the less conservative person in this race.”

Better?
