Obama’s big-bucks benefactors sizzling over tarmac delay (delayed his departure-airport hold)
Sun Times ^ | 6-2-12 | Michael Sneed

Posted on 06/02/2012 6:52:08 PM PDT by STARWISE

Fly ’em....

... and fry ‘em! Sneed hears a bevy of out-of-town bigbucks benefactors of President Barack Obama , a.k.a., “The Wallets,” were tarmack sizzling hot Saturday morning when their private jets were unexpectedly grounded at O’Hare and Midway airports.

◆ Translation: Word is President Obama, who overnighted at his Kenwood home after raising tons of campaign cash, decided to spend a little more time with his Chicago buddies Saturday morning, thereby delaying his departure — prompting a security “ground hold” being placed on private jets leaving their airport terminals, according to a top Sneed source. (No commercial flights were grounded.)

◆ Upshot: “The “wallets” were due to take off around 10:43 a.m., but then things got set back another several hours,” said the source. “These guys aren’t used to having to change their schedules. Time means money.” Air Force One ended up leaving around 2 p.m.

My. My. Imagine the spilkes suffered by the bountiful bigbucks boys having to spend another five hours in Chicago. What’s a millionaire to do?

"A little before noon Obama walked about four blocks to the home of his friend, Martin Nesbitt, in the Hyde Park/Kenwood section of the city.

Area residents and the media spotted the president at 49th Street and South Woodlawn Avenue, strolling with senior adviser Valerie Jarrett. He was wearing tan slacks and a white, open-collared shirt with sleeves rolled up. Jarrett wore a knee-length, navy dress. They were trailed closely by a Secret Service agent.

As the president walked by the media, positioned across the street, he called out, "Nice day, huh?" and asked if they'd spent money in Chicago last night.

A reporter called out, asking if he had cooked breakfast for himself at home. Obama smiled and replied, "No, I woke up too late."

Isn’t funny that Obama wants to tax the rich, except for his fat-cat Democrat donors. What happened to his war on corporate jets? Or is it only on Republican corporate jets?

The Associated Press July 20, 2011, 8:16PM ET

Kansas bristles at Obama’s corporate jet remark

By ROXANA HEGEMAN

WICHITA, Kan.

Kansas politicians, union officials and business leaders have launched a counteroffensive to President Barack Obama’s proposal to end tax subsidies for corporations that purchase private jets.

People in this aircraft manufacturing town bristled when the president said last week amid the debt ceiling showdown in Washington that he wants to get rid of “egregious loopholes that are benefiting corporate jet owners or oil companies at a time where they’re making billions of dollars in profits.”

Gov. Sam Brownback led a news conference in Wichita on Wednesday criticizing Obama’s remarks.

The governor said at least 30,000 people in Kansas are employed by the aviation industry, and more than 40 percent of general aviation aircraft around the world is built in Kansas. Wichita is home to manufacturing plants for Cessna, Hawker Beechcraft and Bombardier, along with roughly 200 parts suppliers who depend on them.

“”That is why it is alarming that on multiple occasions the president of the United States has seen fit to use business jets as political pawns,” Brownback said.

The governor said that after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, one of the key things used to help the aircraft manufacturing industry recover were tax incentives such as bonus depreciation to entice companies buy corporate jets again.

Private plane manufacturers across the nation have laid off about 20,000 workers since 2008, according to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.

“We have an industry that has had difficulty in recent years,” Brownback said.

Aviation manufacturing needs tax policies that will help it and a president who stops harming the industry, he said.

Community leaders said the vast majority of businesses and organizations that fly planes are not wealthy chief executives, but people who use airplanes as another tool to do businesses. About 90 percent of airports in this country do not have commercial airline service.
