The tradition is to announce the No. 2 around the time of the convention to inspire grassroots activists and seek maximum publicity for the final two-month push to the November 6 election.
But in this case, the Romney team has discussed whether to announce the pick a few weeks earlier to generate buzz for his campaign during August and help raise campaign funds.

I’m of the opinion that Romeny wants to vet someone as thoroughly as possible and make a safe choice. Probably the choice will be either Rob Portman or Bob McDonnell.
100% agree.
“Probably the choice will be either Rob Portman or Bob McDonnell.”
Also agree. Rubio seems to have peaked, plus FL is looking solid GOP, at least for POTUS. OH or VA should be very competitive.
I’m guessing that Mitt’s VP pick will be another RINO, which will upset the conservative voters even more.
Would either Portman or McDonnell be considered RINO’s?
I’d LOVE for Scott Walker to be VPOTUS, but I just don’t think that will happen.
Never heard of either one of those bozos.
“I believe you boys are Delphi techniqueing us.”
I have no idea what that means. Can’t say I care either.
“Never heard of either one of those bozos.”
Must not read Freerepublic.com much then.
CF, are you “Delphi-ing” anyone?
I’m not sure, but I don’t think, that a VP pick ever helped carry a state - except possibly for LBJ.
Using the Delphi Technique to Achieve Consensus
You seem to be pretty good at it, for knowing nothing about it.
Romney with all his warts is not so damned stupid to pick another freakin’ senator.
After Obama & McCain in 2010 the nation is done hopefully for another 48 year streak without a senator turd running things, like the free world. Do not understand why this is difficult for people.
Enough already with senators.
Now a governor from a swing state like McDonnell (or others) makes perfect sense.
Where’s the bullying? Clintonfaigued and I are chatting, something we do nearly every day on FR.
You, OTOH, I don’t know, have never commicated with, and you jumped into the thread in an unfriendly manner.
Don’t project your issues on others.
Oooo...my pants may never dry...
“Now a governor from a swing state like McDonnell (or others) makes perfect sense.”
Agreed!
Hard to prove, but Veep Palin probably carries a lot of States for Lame-Brain McCain.
I'm just so excited about the prospect of Romney running, picking a VP HE likes and possibly winning.
“Im guessing that Mitts VP pick will be another RINO, which will upset the conservative voters even more.”
He doesn’t care what conservative voters think just as the GOPe doesn’t. Once again they expect conservative to just be compliant voters for whomever the GOPe choses.
This conservative will not vote for him regardless of who he picks. Should he pick a “true conservative”, and they accept the job....then I would question to conservative creds of the VP pick.
No problem!
A little levity is always appreciated!
Portrman has benn talked about and written about for weeks. If you really haven’t heard of him, you might want to do some googling before posting on here and mad coming across as insulting the folks who posted it.
A true conservative won’t be voting for evil - he can pick his nose for all we care.
