Mitt Romney has named former Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt to lead his presidential transition team should he win November's general election, the Republican presidential candidate's campaign confirmed Monday.

-SNIP-

Leavitt, Romney's pick to lead a potential transition, was elected governor of Utah in 1992, and went on to hold the office for ten years. He was governor of the state when Romney headed the Salt Lake City Olympic Organizing Committee in 2002.

In 2003 Leavitt was nominated by President George W. Bush to serve as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He later became Bush's Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Leavitt tired of polygamy uproar-Deseret News Thursday, Aug. 27 1998

Gov. Mike Leavitt told journalists and Utahns Thursday it's time to get past all this concern over polygamy and move on to more pressing issues.

Still trying to define himself on the polygamy question, Leavitt said in his monthly KUED Channel 7 news conference he's taking a "a hard line on clear crimes" committed by polygamists. But moments later he admitted he's turned the matter over to Attorney General Jan Graham - in her official capacity as the state's chief law officer - and county prosecutors.

-SNIP-

Leavitt took the opportunity Thursday to correct a statement he made a month ago at the KUED press conference. Then he said polygamy was a tough matter because it may be protected under the Constitution's free exercise of religion clause. "It's not," he said Thursday.

Leavitt said the state doesn't prosecute polygamists for three reasons: It is difficult to prove, there are legal issues pertaining to how to deal with children, and prosecutors say it is a low priority.

-SNIP-

In recent weeks as journalists from around the world have come to Utah to talk polygamy, the governor has forwarded responsibility to Graham. Graham's office has said that she will prosecute crimes but in turn has forwarded responsibility to local county prosecutors.

Later in the press conference, after several jokes about "less controversial questions," Leavitt was asked how he could say he was taking a hard line when the state isn't prosecuting openly polygamist practitioners such as Allred.

"Those decisions," Leavitt said, "are the responsibility of the attorney general and 29 elected county attorneys. That question should be posed to them."

Kind of a non-issue now anyway, considering popular culture encourages “marriage” between two of the same gender. What’s the big deal about a third...or fourth? What the hay.. make it 10!

Leavitt made a comment in a press conference that "polygamy was a tough matter because it may be protected under the Constitution's free exercise of religion clause. "It's not," he said Thursday."

Gotta be able to flip-flop to be on Romney's team.

Perhaps this is why Romney has been pro-homosexual marriage. First normalize that, then polygamy, then...? Pagans know no divine boundaries— just whatever the society will accept at the moment.

Are Romney or Leavitt for Polygamy?

Didn’t think so.

In context, it is necessary to understand this is UTAH we are talking about.

The issue of Polygamy prosecution is apparently a troubling one there. Most Mormons don’t practice it or condone it, but some of them do, and what to do about them is a UTAH troubling issue.

Leavitt apparently resolved his confusion that possibly Polygamy is protected under freedom of religion by later saying he now knows it is not.

YOU, the poster of this thread, may believe the story of Romney’s Leavitt appt. is about Polygamy, but it isn’t about that.

Leavitt has held very high-level, federal appt. jobs under President Bush, as well as having been a long-time governor of Utah.

He isn’t a new face on the scene.

I have known of him for years.

You are cherry picking, trying to force feed us like we were babes in the woods.

And that’s the truth.

He checked with a constitutional lawyer and got a no way, no how, answer back.

If he had checked first, before he said it may be protected, well...if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

But I will be forever on sound, irrefutable, solid ground in pointing out to you, the man said “it MAY be”.

If he said it was, then turned around and said it wasn’t, you might have something.

But you have nothing.

And no, pretending you have him on record saying it was, then it wasn’t, won’t help.

I can read.

And I can hold you to account.

The Dessert News (a SLC lds publication) made it about polygamy. Grey was just posting the article.
People will wonder about polygamy, because the MSM will not stop asking about it and cable networks are not going to stop doing shows on it.
moromns practice polygamy, that’s what the whole sealing for eternity in the temple deal is about - many wives......for and we know the answer.

Are Romney or Leavitt for Polygamy?
_____________________________________________

Romney is...

He often announces that he “believes in” the “faith” of his fathers...

Romneys ancestors were polygamists who believed that polygamny would lead to godhood and getting to go to the highest level of the Mormon afterlife with a planet of their own and lots of willing “wives”

Th Mormon doctrine polygamy AKA “celestial marriage” is called “the first principle”

IOW its the most important thing to believe in and practice in Mormonism...

Monogamy is called prostitution...

..........."Recently, evangelical, Orthodox Jewish, Catholic and Mormon leaders helped form in every state a new network of caucuses dedicated to religious liberty, with the birth control mandate as their initial focus.

The advocacy group Conscience Cause formed in February to rescind or revise the birth control mandate. The organization's board includes Jim Nicholson, the former U.S. ambassador to the Vatican under President George W. Bush, and Republican strategists Mary Matalin and Ed Gillespie. Gillespie is an adviser to the Romney campaign. ".... Source

The focus needs to stay on the Left and their efforts to breakdown this country, brick by brick. No one will accuse Mormons of hating the United States and American exceptionalism.

Another thing that Romney will have to do to keep from being DUMPED in Tampa is to immediately fire his new appointee, Mike Leavitt, to head his transition team, and replace him with someone who wants to REPEAL AND ABOLISH Obama/Romney”care” FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are cherry picking, trying to force feed us like we were babes in the woods.

It's hilarious to see a Romney supporter accusing someone of "cherry picking" and of all things, "force feeding" after the way that Mitt was force fed down the throats of voters.

BTW, I have been posting mormon facts at FR since '07....and until the mormon church recalls the 52,000 missionaries that are out there knocking on the doors of Christians and claiming their Christian faith is bogus, I will continue to do so.

Mitt won't be able to hide from mormon polygamy, and choosing Leavitt as a team leader after Leavitt's statement on it is as dumb as the GOP-E running a member of a proven racist sect against a black man.

If polygamy comes up in the next four to eight years, it will be on the heals of the gay agenda, fueled by the same anti cultural mob that pushes perversion now, and Romney will have nothing to do with it. I would be more concerned about Ron Paul signing onto it.
