I have never understood the continuing debate about Apple v. Microsoft products as Apple seems to provide higher price and higher quality more efficient products, while Microsoft products appear to be less expensive and not as good.

It's like comparing a Chevy Malibu to a Porsche. You get what you pay for.

I own a Windows base PC for my office because it suits my needs.

I own an Android table because it suits my needs.

And, I own any Iphone 4s because it suits my needs.

I have owned Apple products for over thirty years, but my recent experience with an iPhone problem that required me to go to the ‘genius bar’ put me over the top. Genius Bar??? ...too cute for words. The whole Apple culture is ripe for a put-down, à la a SNL skit.

1. Many large companies and executives do not care about how they lay off employees, other than to do what is necessary to avoid lawsuits. One thing I liked about Jobs is that he held the top people responsible and he made them take care of problems - he would get furious if they passed it off to somebody else.

2. As for the "open platform" stuff and Androids passing up iPhones, Apple doesn't care if there are more Android devices, because they are not interested in racing to the bottom. Racing to the bottom is why Dell, HP, etc. make far less than Apple in profit on their systems.

3. by refusing to supply major software upgrades. Somebody is not very familiar with the dozens of variations of Android's OS and the fracturing of the Android platform that some companies are selling Android devices right now for which they do not plan on offering OS upgrades 6 months from now. I know, I bought my son an Android tablet recently only to find out that Samsung is wishy-washy on offering the latest OS versions. This was a dual-core tablet, not a shabby tablet by any means. They also aren't familiar with the fact that a lot of the OS upgrades, both Apple and Google, are hardware dependent - new features require more powerful hardware.

4. Exporting jobs to China? Does the author of the article think that Android phones are made in the US? They aren't. As a matter of fact, no computers are made in the USA. Dell, HP, etc. all use Foxconn, Apple's supplier. I guarantee the author is typing all of this up on a Chinese-made computer. It may not say Apple, it may say Dell or HP or Lenovo or Acer, but it's Chinese made.

5. The author is upset that Apple made a lot of profit? I remember when this used to be celebrated in America. The author is a fool if they don't think that every company in America would try to get those kinds of profits if they could.

Apple has had very good marketing, but that's not why they succeeded.

It has been shown repeatedly that excellent marketing will not maintain dominance if the product itself is inferior.

History is littered with expensive, yet well-done marketing campaigns that failed because the product failed. A lot of people don't buy a certain brand because of some ad on TV, they buy it because a relative or friend has it and likes it.

I just went to Amazon and searched free children books under Kindle and found 878 results. 371 of which are rated 4 or more stars.

If I were curious enough, I would scrounge up a charger for the iPad and see how it compares.

What Jobs 'contributed' that was worthwhile was unbelievably beautiful products... That's the contribution that mattered and that's worthy of our respect.

The 'charitable organizations' he gave to later were most likely the usual liberal touchy-feelie hate crap - where liberals get to 'feel' good about themselves while doing damage to their 'lessers'...

yes Amazon has a decent selection of books too... which is why there is a Kindal App on the Ipad :)

You see you can get Amazon books on the Ipad, but it doesn’t work the other way.

In fact an Ipad can access all the other competitors collections, but they can’t access the Itunes store. Thus with the Ipad you have access to everything, while with the others you only have access to their limited collections.

On the other hand is reduces the value of what you purchase on iTunes. It only plays one one brand.

Not quite. Amazon and B&N both offer exclusive content that are only available on their respective devices. A growing list I might add. Expect more fragmentation in the future, not less.
