Democrats appear to take Senate with narrow Lehman win (Wisconsin State Senate)

Democrats appeared to have assumed control of the state Senate with results posted early Wednesday showing former Sen. John Lehman (D-Racine) defeating incumbent Van Wanggaard in a tight race.

Republicans held on to three other state Senate seats in Tuesday's recall voting. Democratic challengers lost recalls bids against Sens. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) and Terry Moulton (R-Chippewa Falls.).

Rep. Jerry Petrowski (R-Stettin) was elected to fill the vacancy left by Sen. Pam Galloway (R-Wausau), who resigned earlier this year after opponents gathered enough signatures to initiate a recall election.

All eyes Wednesday will be on the 21st District. Results posted early Wednesday showed Lehman with 36,255 votes to 35,476 for Wanggaard with 100% of precincts reporting. The margin of 779 could bring a recount.

In a statement, Senate Democratic Leader Mark Miller said:

"Tonight, Wisconsinites across the 21st Senate District elected a new State Senator. By electing a Democratic Senate, the people of Wisconsin have opened the door to responsible dialogue and if needed provide a bulwark against continued political extremism, and restored checks and balances to the Wisconsin Legislature. I look forward to working again with Senator-elect Lehman in the State Senate in the coming months."

Message the Rats got last night was what they did in Racine worked. What they did in the rest of the state wasn’t enough. So they need to do more Racines. And they’ll do them unless they are called on it.

I’m not suggesting the split ballots are the ones that are fraudulent.

If the Madison 119% turnout is investigated, I’m sure they’ll find pure dem fraud.

Pyrrhic victory...

The WI state legislature is out of session until January and can only come back with a special session that would have to be approved by the Governor (ie. Walker). Also, this district in Racine (sorry if misspelled) was based on the ‘old’ district boundaries because the recall was started before the new boundaries were certified. This senate seat is back up for election in November and this time will be in a district redrawn to favor republicans. 16 senators are up for reelection and 10 of them are DIMs. The GOP has a strong chance to pick up 3-4 new seats. So this is a non-issue.

-—So if they do win, the Dems can enjoy a whole 5 months of nothing.——

Thanks for the explanation. The victory is complete. Sweet.

My mistake, and I believe you are right to a 95% probability and all it takes is 700 or so votes to grab the seat back.

Your’s is a good idea. Something else which should be done is make changes to the recall statute so only elected officials guilty of a felony or treason or some other defined egregious behavior can be recalled. It should also be done entirely at the expense of the Party seeking recall.

The WI voters have made it known loud and clear they ARE FED UP with the process as it know is used and I see how the Dems could mount any sort of an argument which would be accepted by any but a small part of the population sitting on the moon bat Left.

The Senate is out until the House calls it back into session. Simply enough, the House can keep out of session until November where the GOP is likely to gain back the one whole seat due to redistricting.
Thanks VanDeKoik.
