Waters case to proceed By Jordy Yager - 06/06/12 12:58 PM ET
The House Ethics Committee announced on Wednesday that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) rights were not violated in its investigation of her and its case will proceed.
In a letter to Waters, the committee wrote to inform the lawmaker that it had considered the 12 allegations of misconduct her lawyer had presented against the panel and found that none of them was in violation of the House or committee rules.
The outside counsel has concluded, and the Committee has unanimously found that you have been afforded notice and the opportunity to be heard, wrote Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the panels acting chairman on the Waters case, and Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), the committees ranking member.
"As such, there has been no violation of the due process rights to which you are entitled. Even when the allegations are considered in their totality, there is still no violation of the process which you are due, and the Committee is entitled to continue its consideration of your matter, the lawmakers wrote.
For more than two years, the committee has investigated whether Waters violated House rules after allegations surfaced that she secured funding for a bank in which her husband own stock. Waters has maintained her innocence.
As the committee moved towards holding a trial for Waters late in 2010, the panel halted abruptly and placed two of its lead attorneys on administrative leave. Shortly afterwards, the committees chief counsel stepped down.
The first half of 2011 was spent in a flurry of firing and reorganizing among the panels investigative and legal staff, which included the hiring of a new chief counsel.
In July, the committee announced it was hiring outside attorney Billy Martin to investigate whether members and staff on the panel acted inappropriately in the Waters case.
I had forgotten how sensitive the mushroom and rock box communities are. Thankfully I left the tree stump community and the bag of hammers community out of my intolerant comparison!
(although they’d kick Maxine’s arse on Jeopardy too. Probably on Wheel of Fortune also.)
Even worse: She’d probably come in third in Jeopardy if her opponents were Sean Connery and Chris Matthews!
We need to correct the POLITICALLY CORRECT in our government. This trial should have moved forward years ago but for the POLITICALLY CORRECT afraid to offend the blacks. Waters is a master at taking advantage of this fault built into our political system. She is also a master at playing the I AM A VICTIM game. People in our government must change and grow a pair like WALKER or we will vote your sorry rear ends out of office. It’s time the minorities stand on their own two feet like everyone else or they will never learn to walk. \
thats a keeper
IIRC, Maxine held up all funding for Katrina victims until she got $1000 for each and every one of her ‘constituents’. Don’t know how it got dispersed. Maybe into her pocket or her husband’s pocket.
Please tell me you meant Sean Penn, not Sean Connery!!
