Mitt Romney's statement last night was more interesting than the normal formulaic election night press releases of the genre. Here it is:
I congratulate Scott Walker on his victory in Wisconsin. Governor Walker has demonstrated over the past year what sound fiscal policies can do to turn an economy around, and I believe that in November voters across the country will demonstrate that they want the same in Washington, D.C. Tonights results will echo beyond the borders of Wisconsin. Governor Walker has shown that citizens and taxpayers can fight back and prevail against the runaway government costs imposed by labor bosses. Tonight voters said no to the tired, liberal ideas of yesterday, and yes to fiscal responsibility and a new direction. I look forward to working with Governor Walker to help build a better, brighter future for all Americans.
Romney goes out of his way to associate his agenda with Walker's (the second sentence), and to identify himself personally with Walker (the last sentence). And he poses the choice at the presidential level as comparable with or analogous to the choice in Wisconsin: "the tired, liberal ideas of yesterday" vs. "fiscal responsibility and a new direction."
The Romney camp has been uncertain as to whether to associate its man with, or distance him from, the sometimes controversial and divisive, Tea Party-infused, anti-establishment Republicanism of 2010. Walker's victoryand his ability to increase his margin from 2010might well have tipped the balance in the Romney camp toward running at the head of a phalanx of bold conservative reformers, who have after all been pretty successful at governing, rather than running away from them. Or, to put it differently: The Romney camp may conclude that Scott Walker, his message and his spirit, are not part of the problem but rather part of the solution to Romney's electoral task (especially with working-class voters, including private-sector union members). After all, if Romney could hold 94 percent of Walker's vote from last night in November, he'd win Wisconsin, and the presidency.
So I'd expect to see more of the spirit of Scott Walkerand of Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Susana Martinez, Bob McDonnell, Mitch Daniels, or, if you want to go back a bit, Tim Pawlenty and Jeb Bushin Romney's message over the next weeks. I'd expect to see Romney calling attention to successful Republican governance at the state level. I'd expect him to show up more with such figures in swing states.
And I'd expect one of them to be on the ticket. I could still make a case for a reformist senator (Pat Toomey, Marco Rubio, Kelly Ayotte, or perhaps Rob Portman) or congressman (Paul Ryan). But given that Team Romney would like to run against Washington, I think they'll be inclined to pick a governor. And given Romney's insistence on his VP being ready to be president, they'd presumably prefer a governor who's got some national experience or at least two terms as governor plus national exposure. So I suspect we may be heading toward a Romney-Daniels ticket...or, possibly, Romney-Bush or Romney-Pawlenty. Or could Romney just decide not to over-think things and pick the governor who most clearly embodies Scott Walker's combination of policy and political successScott Walker?
lol..
Ill just stick to working against YOUR hero Romneybot...
I like Paul, personally... But he is a wimp in the political arena. He voted for TARP. nothing else need be said.
Take it up with Scott Walker, a supporter of Mitt Romney so the country can rid itself of Obama.
And YOUR hero.
But...but...how can Scott rate as your hero even as he supports and votes for Mitt, while you rail against Mitt in ugly rants against FReepers?
That doesn’t make any sense.
Hey, but keep it up (not making any sense)...who does that hurt?...us, or you?
You sure are good at throwing around characterizations and accusations not based in fact.
One might even think you are here to disrupt; a bull in a china shop; a preening libertarian drunk on a cheap bottle of self-esteem.

What exactly is not based in fact?
The fact that Romney enacted the template to Obamacare?
The fact that Romney thought the individual mandate was a good thing?
The fact that romney appointed liberal activist judges and left a significant number to be appointed by his fellow socialist predecessor?
You are right about one thing though... I am here to disrupt.... Socialism and socialists... which, unfortunately, the gop-e and its candidate now qualify as. So you will excuse me if I continue the fight for limited government on this web site that JR created to fight against the socialists and statists. Its NOT my fault that the socialists and stateists have taken a stronger hold of and presence in the GOP to the point that the GOP is now propping up a socialist candidate for president. But since they have and are.. They are now a target. along with those that enable them.
Just join the CPUSA and get it over with...
Oh, and since WHEN has FR EVER been a china shop?!
Your quickdraw finger pointing at other posters on the thread. You care not for how you come across. You just open fire. Who died and made you sheriff?
We are ALL “Sheriff”.
If your waiting around for a “savior” to pull your arse out of the socialist fire while at the same time voting for socialists because they are in “your” party. I just gotta call you (or anyone) out on that.
Honestly though, I understand the desires of the folks who are truly “ABO”. They are misguided as hell, dont understand the nature of this war and dont understand the enemy but I do recognize that they mean well and are frightened. That doesn’t absolve them of their responsibility though. It doesn’t insulate them (or the rest of us) from the consequences of their ignorance.
So while I DO “feel for these people” I also understand that these people are the last hurdle to get over in the effort to purge the GOP of “RINO’s” (socialists.progressives,statists,etc).
Bottom line is this. NO more RINO’s means NO more RINOs. Its not just a slogan, its our strategy for cleaning out the trash from the GOP so we can finally use the party to go after socialists in the most aggressive manner possible. Something we just cant do until we get rid of the saboteurs (rinos, progressives, etc) that exist in the party.
Maybe this strategy is too extreme for you, ok. But its the only one that will work.
Like I said...
Maybe they would.
Hopefully they see the big picture.
I’m personally in favor of the idea.
Let's hope he is an omen of better times to come.
:)
I have never voted for Romney and am all over FR calling him the worst candidate we could have.
That name calling shows your rudeness and ignorance. Congrats on a twofer.
What you are is a loud mouthed hypocrite.
I don’t care what you say you’ll stick with doing, because anyone can double down on hypocrisy.
If you laud and praise Scott Walker, who will support Mitt Romney and not a third party, and will refuse to trash Mitt Romney, all because Scott Walker is smart and understands Obama has to go, then you turn around and bash and name call everyone else BUT Scott Walker, even people like me who are on record here deploring Mitt and not voting for Mitt, then YOU are who we are LOL-ing at.
Got a suggestion. Just write a post in response to my cogent and logical and irrefutable one that says LOL a hundred times, then run on back outside and play.
That would be even more amusing than you doubling down on what never made a word of sense.
Anen!
Good take. Even Bush I gave us Clarence Thomas, the finest justice on the Supreme Court, due to exactly that sort of pressure.
Bush II did it, too, with Alito, when his first choice was Harriet Meyers, a wholly unqualified person who’d have ended up being as reliable a lib vote as O’Conor was. It helps to know when to hold em and when to fold em. Right now opposing Romney is just going to causes us to lose a lot of conservative influence we’d otherwise have.
