Sebelius: ‘We’ll be ready’ if Supreme Court strikes healthcare law By Elise Viebeck - 06/07/12 11:53 AM ET
President Obama's top health official told an audience Thursday that the administration will be prepared to react if the Supreme Court strikes down its healthcare reform law.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said she is "confident and optimistic" that the high court will uphold the law, but added "we'll be ready for contingencies" if it does not.
The remark, at a White House town hall on women's health, comes as the president and Democrats brace themselves for the court's decision, which is expected by the end of the month.
A report last week said Obama has privately expressed concerns he could have to revisit healthcare issues in a second term — an attitude that contradicts the confidence he's expressed publicly that the court will rule in the law's favor.
"Frankly, we're just working as hard as we possibly can to get ready for 2014," when new portions of the law will be implemented, Sebelius told the friendly audience Thursday.
"It's best to anticipate that the law is fully constitutional. ... Some of the deadlines are pretty daunting," she said.
The ruling could come at 10 a.m. on any business day before the end of June, when the Supreme Court will finish its session.
Sebelius called healthcare reform "the most important women's health law in at least 50 years" — on par with Medicare.
"We've been talking to women throughout the country about the Affordable Care Act and about how this law is already impacting their lives," she said. "What the law meant for them is peace of mind.
"Whatever the circumstances … care will be there. Affordable prices will be there. Coverage will be there that you need."

Bingo. Just do away with the mandate. Implement everything else. It will explode the deficit unless we tax the rich. It's THE campaign crutch to save his re-election chances. Wh have to let the Bush tax cuts for the rich expire to pay for the SC ruling against the individual mandate.

How does one react to a decision based on the US Constitution?
Institutionalized racism.
Right you are. Screw the republicans. We need to elect some strong conservatives to congress of whatever party they wish to identify with. A few rabblerousers can’t change congress but might muck up the works and generally get more press than a congress full of RINOs and dems. Can’t hurt.
You’re not going to get the IRS piece without a passed statute. There are limits to the EO that BO cannot overcome without an old-fashioned outright coup. I’m beginning to think they will lose this fight. They are on the wrong side of history.
No matter what the decision is, Obama WILL tax us for it, he will continue it because he knows who is the leader in Congress. He knows he got away with everything with Boehner. The Obama WH will consider their law valid. Remember, we're talking about a White House that never did prove his eligibility to even be President. Can't ignore one part of the Constitution and not another part. Obamacare will continue and it will be up to the next President to choose to stop it. That President (whoever it may be) will be called "heartless" by the democrats. "Heartless" for enforcing the law and abiding by the US Constitution. But then again, we were called "heartless" by our own for trying to enforce laws. We (our side) needs to be consistant when it comes to standing by the US Constitution. Otherwise the left will call us pickers and choosers.
If you simply ignore the validity of the Constitution there are no limits to what can be done. Obama’s in control and nobody has stopped him yet for breaking laws. John Boehner may go and drink a beer with him but that will be all.
The truth is, the only reason Obama hopes the USSC declares ObamaCare to be constitutional is only for the purpose of using the decision in campaign ads and to be abe to tell the republicans "I told told you I was right and you were wrong".
That's the only reason why he cares about the decision.
He's not worried about ObamaCare. That stays no matter what the decision is that comes out of the USSC. Obama is President.
That's the same Medicare that broke or soon to be broke, right?
