Note that Michigan has a successful and popular Republican governor, the GOP controls both houses of the legislature: why would it be a surprise that Romney could lead Obama there?
Especially with Romney being exactly the kind of liberal ‘Pubbie that the folks of Michigan do seem to love.

Way to go, Hattie.

We need to start rooting for our candidate instead of against him.

You are exactly right.

The voters nominated Mitt Romney.

The Republicans did not put up an attractive slate to begin with. The only one I could support was Perry and he got zero support.

I know many here wanted Santorum or Newt, but I really think we lucked out with Romney.

Santorum would have been vulnerable to have been painted as a right wing wacko and he was easily rattled and not good at defending himself.

Newt ... well, I love Newt, but you know he would have shot himself in the foot with his mouth which he could not control.

Romney has been steady and unruffled and has said and done all the right things. I really think now .. No, he wasn’t my preference ... but I really think now that we ended up with the candidate with the best chance of winning.

And that is very important to me and to the country.

Getting Obama out of our White House.

It’s kinda interesting, although not particularly attractive, that all the Romney haters are so nasty in their posts.

One of them posting here today used so many F bombs that he had 3 or 4 posts deleted before he got the message. (on another thread)

They have no rational argument so they resort to insults, delusional thinking and hyperbole.

It’ll only be a shock to the liberals who have counted on the old northwest being in the bag forever!

Actually Michigan and Wisconsin are in the Midwest; not the Northwest.

They’re Midwest now. But they are still the old northwest, carved from the Northwest Territory in the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, along with Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

Get rid of Detroit, and Michigan is as conservative as any Southern state.

I lived in MI for 10 years and that is partially true. I would add...”Get rid of Detroit AND the UAW members in the southern suburbs of Detroit (Downriver) and Michigan is as conservative as any Southern state.”

FWIW.. Michigan is beginning to change. The unions have fallen out of favor, both public and private and we have all just about had our fill of Detroit.

But who do you imagine stepping forward and getting the nomination if Mitt were ‘dumped’ at the convention?

What true conservative is waiting in the wings? If he exists, why didn’t he get into the race earlier and challenge Romney like Perry, Santorum, Newt, and Paul did?

And please don’t say Jeb Bush.

I agree the generic polls we are too far out for them to be precise in terms of exactly how the election will go down, but the Recall race isn’t a generic POLL.. they are EXIT polls from an actual election, that had a motivated electorate that happened.. so everyone questioned was a LIKELY VOTER... even more so because they were actually interviewed just after voting.

Secondly, yes, the election is 5 months away, almost to a day... and the typical “swing” voter normally would not be paying much attention to things.. and I am not suggesting that most of them are.. but they are getting their 401k statements, if they are lucky enough to have not had to cash them out, they are struggling, and having to sacrifice in numbers and ways that are not TYPICAL in a summer before an election...

REmember, right now, in America, there are FEWER TOTAL PEOPLE WORKING TODAY THAN THERE WERE THE DAY OBAMA TOOK OFFICE! That’s a STAGGERING thing, not a smaller percentage of folks are working, the actual total number is smaller.. and shows NO SIGNS of changing before November. You don’t have to be a political junkie to know, you ain’t working, or if you are you are working in a job well below your former earning and skill level struggling to make ends meet.

Don’t kid yourself, these polls and their internals have been showing trends for a LONG time.. and its a trend that OBama cannot overcome.

Groups that he won by huge margins in 08, won’t be going for him in those numbers this time, and the repressed republican turnout of 08 due to disgust with Bush, isn’t going to happen! They are motivated as hell to get rid of this guy.

His support among Catholics will be lower thanks to his decision to pick a fight with the church... Young folks ain’t going to be rushing to vote for the guy this time when 50% of them graduates of college can’t even get a job in their field. The only group that he might see gains in might be the homosexuals, but they by and large vote democrat anyway, and account for less than 2% of the population, so even a 10% improvement among them wouldn’t add up to more than a faction of a percentage point at the polls.

He has driven away the “blue dog” democrat, the working class middle and the lower middle, upper lower class working american who was traditionally socially conservative, but voted Democratic.. that entire segment is not going to vote for him in numbers remotely where it needs to for him to have any shot at winning, and not only will they not vote for him, he’s destroyed the relationship with the party for most of them.

This election is shaping up to be a blood bath for the democrats, not only Obama, but all up and down the ticket, the idea that 2010 was a one off, and the electorate has forgotten??? Nope, and most of the senators facing the electorate this fall will be facing it for the first time since voting in Obamacare the most hated legislation in modern times... You really think the voters are going to be any kinder now to them??? The Bill is less popular now that it was in 2010!

The Dems put a guy up who had no talent or ability, and he governed as a man with no talent or ability.. he simply ramrodded through what he wanted when he had the majority, and the congressional democrats for the most part complied.. once the price began to be paid for that however, he’s been able to accomplish nothing, and even with 2 years of congressional control, what did he do? Not one memorable bill or program that had a noteable positive impact.. The only bill remember is the OBAMACARE and its hated. Every level, this administration has been a disaster..

This election was ALWAYS republicans to lose, because this is a referendum on the most inept politician and pathetically small man ever to hold the post in the past 50 years EASILY, and honestly closer to 100 years.

Work hard, fight hard, but the idea that Obama has a prayer at winning the electoin is laughable on its face.
